Location Atlanta, GA Job Summary The College of Sciences () at the Georgia Institute of Technologyin Atlanta, Georgia invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowposition in the School of Physics (https://physics.gatech.edu/).Professor Simon Sponberg’s research group is active in exploringthe physical and physiological mechanisms underlying agile animalmovement. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptionalcommitment to the teaching and mentoring of students. Responsibilities The Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Physics will be a memberof the Agile System Lab to work the multi-scale physics of muscleas a versatile actuator under the direction of Professor SimonSponberg. As part of their employment, the postdoc will participatein a large multi-university team collaboration on muscle biophysicsand movement in unsteady conditions involving biologists,physicists, applied mathematicians, and mechanical engineers. Thepostdoc will help with the execution and facilitation of thisproject. This role will be vitally important to the success of thisproject and will also be responsible for mentorship ofundergraduate and graduate students within the group and as part ofthe multi-university research team. Required Qualifications PhD in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Biophysics, Materials orRelated Fields. Preferred Qualifications The candidate will have a background in experimental biophysics,biophysical modeling, soft matter, x-ray scattering or diffraction,muscle physiology, biomechanics, or related disciplines. Inaddition, expertise in working with biological tissue experiments,materials testing, multiscale modeling, or muscle physiology wouldfacilitate project goals. The successful candidate will have somerelevant experience, being amenable to training in related topics,and be available to show both independent problem solving and theability to work together in a collaborative multidisciplinary labenvironment.
