Center Operations Manager

4th St, Opelika, AL 36801 The Alabama Council on Human Relations (ACHR) seeks an experienced and dedicated Head Start Center Operations Manager to oversee daily operations and ensure consistent quality across three Head Start centers. This role is responsible for supervising center supervisors and ensuring alignment with Head Start Performance Standards, licensing requirements, and ACHR’s mission and curriculum. The ideal candidate brings a passion for early childhood education, strong leadership abilities, and a commitment to family-centered practices.

  • Supervise, support, and coach Center Supervisors across three Head Start locations to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery.
  • Ensure daily operations at each center are developmentally appropriate, aligned with ACHR-approved curriculum, and meet all regulatory and performance standards.
  • Collaborate with the Education Team to coordinate instructional and operational planning across centers.
  • Monitor center enrollment, ensuring full enrollment and timely replacement of children when vacancies occur.
  • Support professional development by leading workshops, providing feedback, and evaluating center staff in coordination with supervisors.
  • Conduct regular site visits and staff meetings to promote strong communication, consistency, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Participate in eligibility, selection, and enrollment processes to ensure equitable access and compliance.
  • Support the implementation of ACHR’s philosophy by modeling inclusive, respectful, and culturally responsive practices with staff and families.
  • Ensure safety, licensing, and compliance standards are maintained at all times across the three sites.
  • Serve as a liaison between center staff, families, and ACHR leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education:

CDA or Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Family and Child Development, Human Development/Family Studies, or a closely related field preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of five years of experience in child development or early childhood education, with at least three years in a leadership or supervisory role.

Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong leadership and team-building abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple sites, prioritize tasks, and solve problems effectively.
  • Proficient in basic office technology, including Microsoft Office Suite and internet-based tools.
  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and early childhood licensing requirements.
  • Ability to travel locally between centers as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and adequate auto insurance.
  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • Flexibility to attend evening or weekend meetings or trainings as needed.
  • Comfortable working with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.
