POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Early Childhood and School Age Development Director, the Afterschool Manager assists in the administration and supervision of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA Afterschool Program. The Afterschool Manager is responsible for maintaining a safe, happy, and healthy environment for both children and staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Plan and implement activities for the day for children in grades Kindergarten-6 with the goals and policies of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with children, staff, parents, and Early Childhood and School Age Development Director.
  • Speak to the students in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Supervise and participate with the children throughout the day.
  • Attend all staff meetings and recommended training programs.
  • Maintain a professional attitude, following the philosophy of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA and modeling the Character Values of Caring, Respect, Responsibility and Honesty.
  • Ensure the well-being and safety (mental, physical, emotion and cyber) of each child during their scheduled time in the Afterschool Program.
  • Promote confidence and enthusiasm throughout the day.
  • Serve as an ambassador of the YMCA. Exemplify the four-character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility with members, the general public, and with staff.
  • Assist the Early Childhood and School Age Development Director in the hiring, training, and management of the Afterschool staff within the budget and personnel policies of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA.
  • Provide quality Childcare programs. Implement the C.A.T.C.H. and H.E.P.A. standards.
  • Responsible for accurate record keeping of all enrolled children and employed staff according to state licensing guidelines.
  • Establish and prepare goals and objectives that are consistent with those of theYMCA.
  • Assist in the execution of Risk Management compliance and programs for the organization.
  • Continually assist in the evaluation of the Afterschool Curriculum to remain competitive in the community.
  • Help to promote and support all YMCA Special events.
  • When directed, manage the Afterschool Programs areas in the absence of the Early Childhood & School Age Development Director.
  • Attend all Staff meetings, and trainings as deemed appropriate by supervisors.
  • Whenever possible engage membership in friendly conversation on a daily basis and whenever possible call members by name.
  • Walk through your program areas and general areas of the YMCA on a daily basis to ensure safety and cleanliness of all spaces and equipment. Report any maintenance or cleanliness issues to Director of Buildings and Grounds immediately.
  • Maintain compliance with Connecticut State Licensing requirements and guidelines for all licensed program areas.
  • Maintain necessary training and staff certifications to ensure that they are always current.
  • Other duties as needed or assigned by the Directors.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures related to boundaries with youth, managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
  • Completes all required organizational trainings annually.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • This organization takes every allegation of abuse or misconduct seriously and will fully cooperate with the authorities to investigate all case of alleged abuse or misconduct. Employees and Volunteers shall cooperate with any external investigation by outside authorities or internal investigation conducted by the organization or persons given investigative authority by the organization.
  • An employee or volunteer’s failure to cooperate with an investigation will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or dismissal from the organization.
  • This organization has zero tolerance for abuse and will not tolerate the mistreatment or abuse of consumers in its programs. Any mistreatment or abuse by an employee or volunteer will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or volunteer service and cooperation with law enforcement.
  • Job responsibilities include access to protected health information.

The employee may access protected health information (PHI) only to the extent that it is necessary for job requirements. May only share PHI with those who have a need to know specific member/participant/employee information in order to complete job responsibilities related to the individual’s participation, payment or company operations. Is expected to complete required HIPAA privacy training and maintain HIPAA compliance at all times.

  • Follow and implement all HEPA policies and standards in all YMCA programs.
  • Actively participates in and upholds the YMCA’s mission to be open and accessible to everyone, regardless of financial situation or special need.

Contributes time to raise funds for this worthy and necessary endeavor by supporting the Y’s Annual Giving and Capital Development campaigns.

$18.00 – $20.00 per hour Expected hours: 20 per week
