Director Bucksport Area Child Care Center Bucksport, ME 04416 Job Description BACCC seeks a motivated and enthusiastic Center Director to oversee and direct the agency’s programs and staff. In addition to fostering a safe, fun, and collaborative environment, the director’s responsibilities include long-range planning, fiscal oversight, employee and program management, plant management, and community and client relations. The Center Director also ensures that all licensing, contractual, NAEYC, and organizational requirements are met and works cooperatively with the board of directors to ensure that the Center’s mission and vision are upheld to the highest standard of excellence. Applicants must meet State of Maine licensing requirements for Director and possess: Strong leadership skills and management experience Experience in early childhood or social work settings Clean background checks through the State of Maine’s Bureau of Investigation (Maine DHHS) and Child Protective Services (Maine DHHS) Excellent communication skills The director will maintain general responsibility and authority for overall agency operations. Additionally, the director will: Support the Board of Directors to see that their directions and policies are realized Interact and communicate regularly with parents to keep them informed, to monitor client satisfaction, to build trust, and to keep abreast of issues of concern to the parents Supervise, manage, and support staff members to facilitate the smooth operation of all programs; arrange for substitute staff as necessary Monitor staff and program activities to ensure a high quality of care and consistency of methods and policies throughout the center’s program Foster a sense of pride in all employees to ensure that the quality of care children receive is the center’s highest priority; promote a professional approach to childcare Ensure that current and well-defined job descriptions exist for each job in the facility; verify that adequate and appropriate staff training is carried out Recruit and retain staff to fill staff vacancies; this includes reviewing advertisements, screening applicants, conducting interviews, making selections, and setting pay Fill in in the classroom as necessary for breaks and absences; monitor programs Assess the efficiency and effectiveness of agency programs and report findings to the Board (and ensure that parent feedback is included in such assessments) Keep personnel policies updated to meet legal requirements and to reflect changes in policies and compensation levels See that funds are obtained, safe-guarded, expended, and accounted for per Board and State directives and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Manage finances to avoid deficit and spending and maintain a long-term perspective Prepare budgets and financial statements for review with the Board of Directors; seek supplementary means of funding for current programs and pursue additional funding in support of identified needs Act as agency spokesperson. Represent the center in accordance with the image that the Board of Directors wishes to exhibit to the community Stay aware of the overall repair of the building and grounds; oversee/schedule cleaning, repairs, and other maintenance necessary to safely support BACCC activities Participate in statewide, regional, and local organizations to best benefit the center’s interests Full-time, year-round Monday through Friday, business hours

The program provides salary supplements to child care providers and early childhood educators who work directly with children in licensed facilities or family child care programs. The program is based on a tiered system that considers the educator’s level of education and experience, as well as the number of workers per tier and available funding. In January 2024, lawmakers increased the monthly supplement to up to $625. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
