Work Schedule:

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. This position works 260 days per year, 8 hours per day. Schedules may vary due to work assignments and projects.

SUMMARY:

Chattanooga Head Start is a grant-funded program, and is subject to reapplication every 5 years. The Education Manager organizes, plans and develops educational services in compliance with Head Start objectives, work plans, performance standards, grants and administration and education services policies and procedures. This position consults other service area managers and coordinators in regard to the integration of Education services in Nutrition, Mental Health, Disabilities, Family Services, Transition, and Health. The Education Manager is responsible for the direct supervision of the Site Directors and Coaches.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Work directly with the Director, Assistant Director, Content Area Managers, Coordinators, and Collaboration Partners to ensure all Head Start Performance Standards and licensing requirements are met. Provide leadership in orienting, training, supervising, and appraising job performance of Education staff in compliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures. Develop, implement, and oversee the Head Start Preschool/Early Head Start curriculum to align with program goals, performance standards, and school readiness objectives. Monitor and assess classroom environments to ensure they are developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive, and meet health and safety standards. Oversee developmental screenings and assessments to ensure compliance with performance standards and individualized child goals. Use tools such as CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System) and Creative Curriculum fidelity checklists to evaluate teaching quality and child outcomes. Align educational services with health, family engagement, disabilities, and mental health support to ensure a holistic approach to child development. Ensure compliance with state and federal licensing requirements, including teacher credentials, professional development hours, and classroom ratios. Manage the annual self-assessment process for the education component and participate in monitoring reviews conducted by the Office of Head Start or other entities. Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of teaching staff, ensuring all meet minimum education and experience requirements. Provide coaching and mentoring to Site Directors to enhance teaching practices, emphasizing positive child-teacher interactions and individualized learning. Establish and monitor record-keeping systems that track Education services. Collaborate with Head Start/Early Head Start policy groups and community organizations/agencies. Perform supervisory responsibilities for the Education staff, ensuring service delivery aligns with regulatory requirements. Create and implement an annual calendar of educational events, including parent workshops, training opportunities, and curriculum planning sessions. Maintain accurate documentation of classroom assessments, teacher observations, and professional development activities to meet reporting requirements. Regularly review and update program policies, procedures, and curriculum materials to reflect best practices in early childhood education. Implement Professional Development Plans for direct reports. Accomplish essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, in a timely manner. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field required Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Education Administration preferred. Five years of experience in early childhood education. At least two years of supervisory experience is required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES

Early Childhood classroom experience Experience as a director of a childcare site or center is preferred. Experience in providing training to adult learners in the field of Early Childhood Development
