JOB GOAL
Assist the Pre-K teacher in providing an appropriate education/training program for students.
QUALIFICATIONS
: Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Must possess a Child Development Associate credential (CDA) OR at least 9 credit hours of college coursework in the field of Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a regionally accredited institution. Possess appropriate experience (at least 12 months) working in early childhood or experience in other Office of School Readiness (OSR) approved settings. Punctuality and regular attendance.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
: Participate in daily and/or weekly lesson planning. Prepare classroom materials and develop activities under the direction of the teacher. Reinforce skills and concepts introduced by the teacher. Works with individuals and groups of students as assigned. Assist in preparing class displays and bulletin boards. Assists with non-instructional duties such as snacks, lunch, and personal hygiene needs of students as directed by the preschool teacher. Assist the teacher in duties relating to supervision of playground, cafeteria, and student transportation, clean-up routines, preparation for conferences and other similar activities. Assist in management of classroom behavior. Performs clerical tasks, including inventory, filing, typing, and care for equipment and materials. Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness, and discretion in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Alert the teacher to special needs of individual students and assists students as needed. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner. Maintain professional growth and competence through professional development, as required in OSR grant or as otherwise directed. Perform any other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
: This position typically requires some stooping, kneeling, crawling, standing, walking, reaching, lifting, and other repetitive motions related to caring for small children.
