Position Summary
This is a nine (9) month, grant funded position. Continued employment after the initial period is contingent upon the continuation and amount of grant funding received by the College. The Lead Teacher, First Class Pre-K is responsible for planning and coordinating children’s activities at the Child Development Center under the direction of the Director. The Lead Teacher, First Class Pre-K will provide instruction for children and maintain a classroom environment according to the standards of the Office of School Readiness First Class Pre-K Guidelines. The selected applicant will be subject to enhanced background check screening as required by applicable law.
SALARY SCHEDULE PLACEMENT
Range of $47,600 – $78,677, based upon the Alabama Community College System and Shelton State Community College Pre-K Local Salary Schedule to be determined by the applicant’s years of verified and applicable experience. Applicant ackledges that if selected for the position that applicant’s placement on the applicable salary schedule will be dependent upon the verified information provided by the applicant in accordance with the applicable work experience verification requirements stated below in this official job posting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrate an understanding of andmitment to the mission and goals of themunity college as well as the Office of School Readiness
Demonstrate and maintain a high level ofpetence and expertise in the teaching field and subject area
Provide instruction for children, age 4, during the day, for 180 days per academic year, plus seven professional development days
Provide for effective evaluation of the learning experience of each student utilizing Teaching Strategies TeachGOLD
Maintain a classroom environment that meets the documented standards of the Office of School Readiness First Class Pre-K Guidelines
Provide regular school-homemunication and engage parents and families of the OSR First Class program
Lead students during mealtimes by appropriately modeling manners andmunication skills
Supervise all children during the scheduled classroom days and times
Provide thoughtful planning and preparation throughout the scheduled day, including the required lesson planning and daily schedule
Encourage appropriate behavior, utilizing appropriate classroom management skills and discipline techniques
Sustain consistent contact with OSR Regional and Coaching staff
Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic, personnel, and food service records and submit them according to announced deadlines
Comply with all requirements of the OSR First Class Pre-K Grant
Comply with all requirements under the Alabama Minimum Licensing Standards for Childcare Participate in annual planning and evaluation sessions in support of the College’s vision, mission, and institutional goals and objectives
Demonstrate effective people skills,munication skills, and work ethic
Demonstrate ability to use theputer effectively for word processing, electronicmunication, maintaining online instructional resources, and for appropriateputer applications in the teaching discipline
Participate in college events and functions when available and not in conflict with daily teaching duties
Secondary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with the purchase of all equipment and materials needed for the Child Development Center as approved by the Director Maintain all equipment and materials in the Child Development Center. File reports on all broken or lost equipment.
Communicate with parents on program policies, children’s activities, and children’s progress Attend and/or conduct staff meetings and in-service training Work with the Director in setting and implementing policies, goals, and the philosophy of the SSCC Child Development Center
Other Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Comply with policies of the Alabama Community College System and the College
Serve on Collegemittees as required
Participate in professional development,pliance, performance excellence, and training activities as required
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in one of the following fields: human environmental science (with a concentration in early childhood development or child development), or early childhood education orpletion of a bachelor’s degree program leading to P-3 certification in early childhood education with a minimum of 18 credit hours in early childhood/ child development coursework, or Special Education degree in early childhood with a minimum of 18 credit hours in early childhood/child development coursework, or a bachelor’s degree program leading to certification in early childhood special education with a minimum of 18 credit hours in early childhood/ child development coursework
Must be at least 21 years of age or older
Two years of experience as a pre-K teacher
Preferred:
Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in one of the fields listed above in the required qualifications
Experience with the First-Class Pre-K OSR program
TeachGOLD Training and/or previous experience Understanding of developmentally appropriate practice Application Procedures/Additional Information

Salary Calculation:
For all positions on all Salary Schedules, the salary amount for the selected applicant is determined by step placement on the applicable schedule. Step placement is dependent upon the following: (a) all work experience in public education in Alabama and (b) all other work experience outside of public education in Alabama that, in the sole judgment of the College, directly relates to the requirements of the position. The applicant selected for the position must provide written verification(s) of this work experience within the time provided in if such experience is to be considered in determining their initial step place on the Salary Schedule. Work experience verifications should be in the form of verification letters from employers and must includeplete employment dates, job title(s), job duties, and an indication whether such employment was full-time or part-time, and if part-time, the average number of hours worked each week. The letters should be on official letterhead and contain an authorized personnel signature. The College’s official employment verification form is also acceptable and is available upon request.
