Job Description
Head Teacher, Preschool Rocio’s Learning Development Center Naugatuck, CT 06770 The Head Teacher provides leadership and guidance within the classroom, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of children. This role involves overseeing the daily operations of the classroom, implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum, supervising assistant teachers, and fostering strong relationships with children, families, and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Classroom Management & Supervision:
Oversee and supervise daily classroom activities, including indoor and outdoor play, ensuring the safety and well-being of all children. Implement and enforce positive discipline techniques. Ensure proper staff-to-child ratios are maintained.
Curriculum & Instruction:
Develop and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities that align with curriculum standards (e.g., CT ELDS) and meet the individual needs of children, including those with special needs. Individualize curriculum and daily routines to support children’s learning.
Observation & Assessment:
Observe and assess children’s progress and development. Use observation data to inform instructional practices and adapt teaching strategies.
Team Leadership & Collaboration:
Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to assistant teachers, aides, and volunteers. Provide feedback and support for staff development. Collaborate with other staff members and specialists to ensure coordinated services for children and families.
Family Engagement:
Foster open communication with families, providing updates on children’s progress and addressing concerns. Conduct parent-teacher conferences and home visits as required. Encourage family involvement in program activities.
Compliance & Record Keeping:
Ensure compliance with state regulations. Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including attendance records, accident/incident reports, and progress reports.
Safety & Environment:
Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized classroom environment. Conduct safety drills as required.
Professional Development:
Remain current with best practices in early childhood education. Attend required trainings and workshops.
Qualifications:
Meet the minimum educational requirements as specified by the Office of Early Childhood (OEC).
This may include:
CDA Credential, or a degree (Associate, Bachelor’s, or higher) in Early Childhood Education or a related field. Relevant coursework and experience in early childhood education. Experience working with preschool-aged children. Knowledge of early childhood education principles, child development, and relevant regulations and standards. Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Warm, nurturing, and compassionate personality. Ability to meet physical requirements of the position (e.g., lifting, bending, kneeling). CPR and First Aid certification required. Bilingual A+

$16.50 – $18.00 per hour
