Position Summary
The preschool teacher is responsible for the academic, social-emotional growth, and development of all children in their care. The teacher develops a partnership with each child’s parents or caregiver so that the best interest of each child is attained. The teacher also provides a loving, nurturing, and safe environment for the children at St. John Parish Preschool.
Responsibilities
Respects and promotes Catholic values and aids in the Christian formation of children.
Develops weekly plans and implements age-appropriate curriculum (lesson plans) using the Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards.
Provides a developmentally appropriate, safe, and clean classroom environment that promotes the children’s learning and growth.
Performs on-going developmental evaluations of children and follows curriculum implementation that addresses the individual needs of each child.
Provides responsive care for all children by adapting daily care giving routines and plans to the interests and needs of the individual child and the group.
Prepares developmental progress reports as needed.
Demonstrates cultural competency and respect for the child’s background.
Maintains ongoing, open communication with parents and caregivers.
Ensures that each family receives an opportunity to build a strong relationship and is provided clear communication with teaching staff.
Schedules periodic conferences to discuss children’s developmental progress, needs, and interests.
Maintains up-to-date files as needed.
Reports any child or school concerns to supervisor in a timely and confidential manner.
Reports any symptoms of child abuse to supervisor and/or child abuse hotline.
Completes yearly performance evaluations.
Participates in staff meetings and staff development workshops as needed.
Complies with the St. John Preschool Employee Handbook and acts in accordance with the mission statement of the St. John Preschool.
Job Requirements
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education; CDA preferred.
1 to 5 years of teaching experience
Knowledge of the Connecticut Early Learning Standards
Knowledge of child growth and development
Dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, and creative
Possess skills, attributes and characteristics conducive to working with young children and families.
Satisfy the mandatory physical and background checks as required by the State of CT.
Complete Safe Environment (VIRTUS) training prior to employment.
