Job Description

Preschool and K-2 teacher St. Philip Orthodox Christian Church 4860 Griffin Rd, Davie, FL 33314 Our Orthodox Christian school is committed to forming the hearts and minds of young children through a rich classical education rooted in the Orthodox faith. We are seeking a loving, creative, and faithful teacher to guide our youngest students (Preschool through Grade 2) in both spiritual and academic development. This teacher will cultivate wonder, virtue, and foundational skills in alignment with the classical model and Orthodox Christian tradition.

Responsibilities:

Foster a joyful, orderly, and reverent classroom environment grounded in Orthodox Christian values and practices. Integrate faith across the curriculum through prayer, icons, feast days, hymnography, and Scripture. Teach core subjects including phonics, early reading, handwriting, math, and introductory science and history using classical methods (e.g., narration, memorization, recitation). Encourage wonder and virtue through rich literature, nature study, music, and the arts. Collaborate with fellow teachers and school leadership to develop and refine curriculum within a classical framework. Communicate regularly with parents, maintaining a partnership in the child’s moral, spiritual, and intellectual development. Attend and participate in school liturgical life, including weekly Divine Liturgy and feast day celebrations. Uphold and model Orthodox Christian virtues in professional and personal conduct.

Qualifications:

Practicing Orthodox Christian in good standing with a canonical Orthodox parish (preferred but not required). Bachelor’s degree in education, liberal arts, or a related field; preference for candidates with training or experience in classical education or Orthodox pedagogy. Experience working with young children in an educational setting. Strong classroom management and communication skills rooted in love and respect for the child. Familiarity with or willingness to be trained in classical educational methods (e.g., Charlotte Mason, Memoria Press, or Classical Conversations). Experience incorporating Orthodox Christian traditions into daily school life. (preferred not required) Ability to sing, lead simple hymns, or incorporate chant and music into classroom activities.
