JOB SUMMARY :
(PART-TIME) All Early Childhood Center positions, including that of the EC Teacher, in accordance with Diocesan Policy, are subject to annual renewal. The position offered is for 20-22 hours per week during the school year, not to exceed 1000 per year, July-June.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS BA, BS
AA, A.S. or High School degree, CDA (Child Development Associate) or equivalency and/or college transcripts. Approval of fingerprint check with the Diocese of St. Petersburg and the Department of Children and Families. Satisfactory verification of previous employment references. Satisfactory completion of formal training with the Department of Children and Families online (45 hours) before employment. Diocese Paperwork / Early Childhood Center Paperwork First Aid and CPR Physical test annually

Meets FCC, State, License Board, Diocesan and Center professional requirements (Early Childhood Coursework, CPR, First Aid, Safe Environments, Ethics, Harassment, etc.) Maintains ethical standards as set forth by the ‘Standards of Ethical Conduct for Schools & Centers’, Diocese of St. Petersburg. Maintains a personal professional development plan to provide for ongoing coursework & training to earn a degree in the field of early childhood education/child development. Attends and participates in ongoing staff meetings and training to expand professional growth and to enhance teaching abilities. Understands and follows through with goals and objectives of the Early Childhood Center program. Reports to ECC Director when unsure of approach to problems with children or staff. Works together with all ECC staff to maintain an atmosphere of love, warmth, flexibility, creativity, encouragement, and faith sharing in the classroom and in all aspects of communication with the children and families of St. Thomas Aquinas ECC. Maintains consistent attendance and punctuality. Maintains a professional appearance.
CLASS MANAGEMENT & INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for providing an atmosphere, which fosters faith development among the children by integrating faith across the curriculum. Infuses the diocesan Safe Environments standards & benchmarks into the early childhood curriculum. Follows curriculum guidelines for developmentally appropriate practices as set forth by the Diocese of St. Petersburg, NAEYC/NAC, and the Florida State Standards for each early childhood age level. Researches, prepares, carries out, and supervises activities that support

accreditation criteria. Plans for short and long-range goals and objectives. Submits weekly lesson plans to the EC Director which includes developmental skills to be introduced through planned activities. Develops skills through observation and use of resource materials, to include children’s areas of interest. Responds to the individual needs and the developmental differences of each child. Provides and participates in a variety of activities for children for both individuals and groups, actively engaging with children in the classroom, on the playground and at special event activities. Assesses each child’s developmental progress using a variety of tools and practices, including: observation, child portfolios, anecdotal notes, developmental screenings, and input from the child’s family with regards to development and individual needs. Consults the ECC Director regarding children that may need additional services. Maintains St. Thomas Aquinas Early Childhood Center’s prescribed child development approach to discipline, as stated in the Employee Handbook. Is prepared with instructional materials for classroom and playground activities. Listens to children and acts as a positive adult model for them. Assists children in all activities involving snack, toileting, and other self-help skills. Plans and engages children in developmentally appropriate use of classroom technology. Keeps records updated for classes and individuals: Daily individual and group attendance and anecdotal records of children, kept in individual portfolios, along with sample of each child’s work, conference reports, assessment reports of children, emergency contact information and procedures.
INTERACTION
Maintains a cooperative attitude and works jointly with all ECC staff for the betterment of the school. Involves families in the curriculum by inviting and involving them in classroom activities. Keeps families informed of developmental progress. Informs families weekly and monthly of ongoing classroom activities. Works cooperatively with families and outside agencies (FDLRS, etc.) to provide additional support for the child, including, but not limited to, maintaining student support plans, IEPS, speech & developmental referrals, etc. Actively participates in all aspects of the school, including fundraising efforts- assuming tasks, showing initiative & personal responsibility as part of the total school community. Keeps private matters confidential Plans and facilitates the required two annual, formal parent/teacher conferences Responds to family concerns in a timely manner. Maintains confidentially in all matters. Adheres to diocesan/center policies with regards to the use of social media. Observes and anticipates needs of children. Builds self-confidence and responsibility in children. Provides assistance to other staff, when needed. Shares and rotates thematic materials. Attends required conferences and other informal meetings and interacts positively with parents. Refers families to the ECC Administrator as needed. Represents St. Thomas Aquinas Early Childhood Center to families and the greater community in a positive manner. Actively participates in all aspects of the school, including fundraising efforts- assuming tasks, showing initiative and personal responsibility as part of the total school community. Assists with other duties assigned by ECC Administrator.
SCHOOL MAINTENANCE
Knows and implements emergency procedures. Maintains an awareness of the total school environment including unauthorized persons on property. Manages appropriate use and care of classroom and playground areas and equipment therein. Makes recommendations regarding safer practices for Early Childhood Program and assists school in inventory procedures and ordering equipment. Maintains materials in working order and informs office of additional maintenance needs. Responsible for daily cleanliness, tidiness and organization of designated center areas as outlined in the Employee Manual following accreditation and licensing guidelines.
VPK SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Incorporates Florida State VPK Standards for Four Years Olds into the developmentally appropriate curriculum. Remains current with coursework, workshops, and training regarding VPK & School Readiness. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a Level II Background Screening.
