Position Description:
The Early Head Start Teacher for Coastal GA CAA will ensure that all children are provided daily care and education to meet the physical, emotional , intellectual and social needs in accordance with education services, plans, policies and Head Start Performance Standards. The EHS Teacher will recognize milestones of infant and toddler development in the areas of cognition, social skills acquisition, physical growth, emotional health, monitors signs of illness, neglect, abuse and changes in a child’s behavior or physical status. The EHS Teacher will ensure that all education service area plans are followed in maintaining a safe environment with appropriate supervision that promotes age appropriate physical kinesthetic activities.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Develop and implement schedules, routines and activities in accordance with HS Performance Standards, and Licensing requirements Refer children with suspected problems to the appropriate Area Coordinator for follow-up Use age appropriate behavior managment techniques Provide constant supervision of all children at all times. Children are never to be left alone for any length of time Responsible for the screening and ongoing assessment of children Ensure infants are held while being fed and are not laid down to sleep with a bottle Attend training for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and other appropriate training on an ongoing basis Be responsible for no more than four infants and toddlers, and that nor more than eight infants and toddlers are placed in any one group Meet with the Center Supervisor on a regular basis to discuss concerns/needs per organization, Federal, State and local guidelines when deemed necessary Assist/familiarize EHS parents with the philosophy, policies and routines within the overall program Adapts the curriculum plan of the day based on attendance and staffing Arranges and conducts parent/staff conferences and home visits Demonstrates model teaching techniques in assigned classroom Counsel parents in meeting their social and educational development goals for their children Confer with parents and staff to discuss early childhood activities, policies and student behavioral or learning strengths or challenges within the assigned classroom As assigned, observes classrooms for Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) environment, required posted materials, adequate and appropriate materials, and safety/sanitation within all sites; including Federal, State and agency guidelines Ensure that individualized learning experiences are occurring within assigned classrooms Ensure appropriate documentation of anecdotal and observation notes, with an emphasis on individualized teaching methods and models as mandated within the Head Start Performance Standards; including an anti-bias approach Document all information in the program database Perform other work related and/or duties as assigned
Other Responsibilities:
Monitor and review lesson plans and children’s files for compliance and Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) Monitor and ensure that services are charted and recorded in accordance with Federal, State and agency standards within the overall program and partnership sites Maintain up to date documentation of the Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale-Revised Edition (ITERS-R) Ensuring compliance and reporting for the overall occupational safety and health practice systems Immediately reporting any child abuse, unsafe or hazardous conditions and/or any injury within sites

Education, Training, Special Licenses:
Completion of CDA Child Development Associate, Associates of Bachelor degree in Early Childhood. Must have an acceptable Drug Screen and Criminal Background check. Must have the ability to create a classroom atmosphere in which children can develop physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially and creatively Excellent written, verbal/nonverbal and computer skills are required Ability to work independently and as part of a team including the ability to understand and respect diversity
Experience:
One (1) year or more related classroom experience Skill at: Knowledge of Early Childhood Development inlcuding social/emotional development. Must adhere to confidentiality standards
Typical Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds The job also requires walking, standing, bending, pushing and kneeling Must submit to drug screening if drug use suspected
