PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The educator is responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children in accordance with Georgia? Bright from the Start childcare licensing agency and all relevant policies and procedures of the Willow School. SCOPE As the classroom is a collaborative environment, the educator will be working together with co-educators and pedagogical staff to create a learning environment that reflects the philosophies of the Willow School and the Reggio Emilia approach. The educator will be responsible for planning and implementing a program to care for and facilitate age-appropriate learning and development of young children. The educator must ensure the development and safety of the children in accordance with relevant federal, state, and local legislation and policies. The educator will be respectful to children, parents and colleagues at all times and ensure that classroom environment is clean, safe and well maintained.
RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Professionalism � Always uphold the mission and vision of the Willow School � Conduct all duties and responsibilities with a professional and positive attitude, showing respect to children, co-workers and parents at all times. � Follow all of the policies and procedures of the Employee Handbook. � Proactively complete necessary training mandated by Bright from the Start. � Attend after hour school events as outlined in Employment Letter. � Attend all pre-planning, post-planning, staff meetings, professional development days and/or retreats as designated by the school calendar. � Understand patterns of appropriate growth, development and learning of children � Be familiar with Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS) and be able to connect them to planned learning experiences. 2. Classroom Management Comply with all requirements of the Georgia Lottery Pre-K Program and the policies and procedures of the Willow School. Be engaged with the children and attentive to their needs Ensure children are supervised at all times within the proper ratios for the age group Count children frequently and be aware of head count at all times Ensure care routines are completed in a timely and nurturing manner Comfort children when they are upset and develop trusting relationships with children Establish predictable daily routines and provide reinforcement to create a positive classroom environment Classroom environment must always be well maintained and engaging for children Communicate with children in a manner that is respectful and developmentally appropriate Conduct guidance/discipline in an appropriate manner according to the school?s practices. Observe children and make notes of developmental milestones Integrate children with special needs in a positive, inclusive and respectful manner Be familiar with emergency procedures 3. Curriculum, Pedagogy and Documentation Interact with children?s play and work in a way that fosters problem solving/critical thinking � Collaborate with pedagogical staff and co-educators to ensure completion and implementation of lesson plans, development of projects, research threads of interest and engaging classroom culture. � Engage in study with regards to the Reggio Emilia approach, interactions with children and parents, guidance practices and the pedagogy of early childhood education. � Make the children?s learning visible through various forms of documentation including portfolio pages, documentation panels showcasing project work, digital presentations � Collaborate with pedagogical staff and co-educators to create appropriate conference notes and assessments of each child for the purpose of parent/teacher conferences. 4. Communicate with Parents and Community Create positive relationships with parents that develop partnerships in the care of their children Participate in frequent communication with parents as follows: Brightwheel messages and photos through student profiles (at least 3 times weekly) Weekly comprehensive classroom newsletter Phone calls as necessary to discuss sensitive matters, incident reports, etc. Two parent/teacher conferences per year Participate in school community activities Promote literacy and early education 5. Playground & Aftercare Responsibilities � Check attendance by doing a head count to make sure all children are accounted for upon entering and exiting the school and the playground. � Proper ratios, based on the youngest child, must be maintained while outdoors and during aftercare � Check playground for broken or hazardous items before allowing the children to play � Playground should be cleaned and free of trash before leaving the playground (children should be asked to help with this process) � Educators responsible for aftercare should prepare activities and be actively engaged with the children during the aftercare hours � All children should be clean and diapered/toileted and have all of their belongings before leaving with parents � All spaces (playground, back play space, piazza, lobby) should be picked up and all items put in their proper place � All exterior doors should be closed and/or locked � All lights should be turned off � All left over food should be thrown away or taken back to the kitchen � All trash should be removed Requirements Minimum credential is a CDA. Higher credentials and experience are preferred.
