JOB DESCRIPTION

Wonder Garden is a play-based, nature focused preschool in Needham MA. Our unique seamless entry school allows children to flow between our outdoor and indoor classrooms throughout the day no matter the weather. We know that providing opportunities for outdoor, big body play results in calmer, more regulated students and teachers who are able to build relationships rather than control behavior. We are a very small non-profit school that strives to feel like a second home for our families and teachers. We are looking for a passionate early childhood advocate to join our teaching team. TITLE Preschool Teacher

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Reports to Director. Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times. Assist Lead Teacher with planning curriculum for the children in the classroom that is developmentally appropriate and helps children develop physically, cognitively, emotionally and socially. Implement the daily program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of Wonder Garden Gear the program to the needs of individual children with concerns for their interests, handicaps, special talents, and individual styles and pace of learning. Consider individual children in relationship to their cultural and social-economic background. Treat children with dignity and respect. Help children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group Be responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor and learning environment of the classroom Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff Ensure that childcare routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic, and consistent with good child development principles. This includes routines related to toileting, hand washing, eating and transitioning between activities. Attend weekly classroom team meetings (for planning, gathering supplies, sanitizing toys, classroom cleaning, etc.) Attend monthly staff meetings. Attend 12 hours of in-service training per school year as agreed upon with Director. Plan and implement methods of establishing a positive liaison with parents of the students Ensure that parents receive adequate information about their child’s experiences at school through daily contact and regularly scheduled parent conferences Conduct parent conferences on children’s school adjustments and classroom behavior Assist in the ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of the children Assist in public relations events sponsored by the school Perform related duties as instructed by the Director Be familiar with state regulations as well as with Program Policies of Wonder Garden. Qualifications Must be 21 Must have High School Diploma or General Education Diploma Must have a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential or have graduated from a two year high school vocational program in early childhood education, approved by the office, for both the education and experience requirements and have been evaluated and recommended by the program instructor Must hold and maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications. Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds. Must have minimum of 9 months of work experience in preschool education (as shown by a positive reference from a former employer supervisor in the preschool education field). An Associates or Bachelors degree in early childhood education or a related field of study may substitute for six months of experience A Bachelors degree in an unrelated field of study may substitute for three months of the required experience Must have 3 semester hours (or 15 clock hours of approved in-service training) in the area of child development.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Passionate about Play Based education. Interested in teaching and learning outdoors.

Small school-28 students enrolled; average of 18 per day Small staff-3 teachers
