Preschool Teacher Riverside Academy 3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars 430 Lisbon Street, Lewiston, ME 04240 Job Summary The preschool teacher plays a critical role in early childhood development by creating a nurturing, stimulating, and educational environment for young children. This position involves planning and implementing age-appropriate activities that encourage social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth in children typically aged 3 to 5 years old. Preschool teachers work closely with parents, administrators, and assistants to provide a well-rounded and safe learning experience.

Key Responsibilities Curriculum Planning:

Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that incorporate a mix of play-based and structured learning to foster curiosity and creativity. Align activities with developmental milestones and early learning standards.

Classroom Management:

Establish and maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment. Encourage positive behavior and manage conflicts in a gentle, constructive manner.

Child Development and Assessment:

Observe and document each child’s progress, noting strengths, areas for improvement, and developmental milestones. Identify any potential developmental delays and discuss findings with parents or specialists when necessary.

Parent and Family Engagement:

Maintain open communication with parents regarding their child’s progress, upcoming events, and overall classroom experience. Conduct regular parent-teacher meetings to discuss developmental goals and concerns.

Health and Safety Compliance:

Follow all safety protocols to maintain a clean and healthy classroom. Teach children good hygiene habits, including proper handwashing techniques and other health-conscious behaviors.

Professional Development:

Stay current with early childhood education practices through continuous learning and professional development courses. Collaborate with colleagues to exchange ideas and participate in team meetings.

Requirements Education:

Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (preferred).

Experience:

Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an early childhood education setting.

Certifications:

CPR and First Aid certification (may be required); Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is a plus.

Skills:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to engage young children with patience, empathy, and enthusiasm. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Job Types:
