EARLY CHILDHOOD/CHILD CARE TEACHER 3
Month Part-Time Contract Position Projected Dates:

September 10, 2025 – January 1, 2026

HOURLY RATE:

$21.24/hour

ANTICIPATED HOURS

approximately 16 hours/week guaranteed; up to 30 hours/week Mon-Thurs 12pm-3pm, on call for 6 to 8 hour shifts to cover planned and unplanned teacher absences

DESCRIPTION

This position works with children (3 – 5 years old), parents, students and the SMCC community in carrying out developmentally appropriate practices with young children. Position reports to the Director of Spring Point Children’s Center and the classroom teachers. The successful candidate will be receptive to teacher direction and modelling, communicate effectively with the teaching team and parents; be reliable and timely; and interact with children in developmentally appropriate ways. This position will cover daily transitions and teacher breaks, as well as being available to cover teacher absences.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Candidates must possess knowledge of emergency first aid/fire safety procedures; the ability to work with a teaching team to participate in developmentally appropriate activities for children ages 3 – 5; excellent interpersonal skills; excellent organization and observational skills; knowledge of sound nutritional practices; the ability to interact continually with preschoolers in a lively, animated environment, both indoors and out; flexibility and ability to prioritize; the ability to comply with all State of Maine licensing requirements. Familiarity with NAEYC standards is desirable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must hold current Pediatric First Aid and CPR Certification, be able to complete Mandated Reporter Training through State of Maine, must complete Health and Safety Certification through Maine Roads to Quality. Must pass a criminal background check and be fingerprinted by DHHS. Must have work experience in an early childhood setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
