Substitute Preschool Assistant El Primer Paso, Ltd. 29 Segur Street, Dover, NJ 07801 Job Overview The successful candidate for this position would have experience in working with preschool children (ages 3-5) along with coursework in early childhood development or other related professional development. This position would be ideal for a retired early childhood professional or paraprofessional who was interested in working per diem, on an as-needed basis, to cover staff absences. This job would also be ideal for a college student with flexible class hours that would fit program needs, especially one who wanted more experience with young children. The specific shift and hours would vary depending on coverage needs. The candidate will participate in training in agency policies and procedures as well as training required by the Office of Licensing of the Department of Children and Families. Background checks specified by the Office of Licensing are also required. Responsibilities Supervise, engage in focused play activities, and conduct classroom activities with children under the direction of the lead teacher. Assist with preparation of materials for daily activities. Manage classroom behavior effectively to create a conducive learning atmosphere, modeling strategies employed by the classroom teacher. Assist with clean-up and daily classroom sanitation. Assist children with toileting and handwashing. Prepare breakfast or supervise children in Early Care (depending on assignment). Supervise children during meals, snacks, and naptime. Engage in conversations with children, modeling social/emotional skills and good health habits under the direction of the teacher Foster a nurturing environment that promotes childhood development and learning. Ensure adequate supervision of all children at all times, especially during gross motor activities, under the direction of the teacher. Experience Experience working with students in an educational setting is preferred. Background in early childhood education or childhood development is highly desirable. Familiarity with classroom management techniques and strategies. Previous experience in special education or working with children with diverse learning needs is a plus. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and parents. The ability to speak both English and Spanish is a plus for our population.
