Childcare Teacher 3.0 3.0 out of 5 stars 1020 King Street, Charleston, SC 29403 Overview We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Cook to join our team at First African CDC, a licensed DSS-regulated childcare facility in South Carolina. The Cook will be responsible for preparing nutritious, balanced, and age-appropriate meals for children in our care, while adhering to all state regulations and food safety standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in food preparation, working with young children, and be committed to fostering a healthy eating environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Meal Preparation:
Prepare and cook nutritious meals, snacks, and beverages for children in accordance with the approved menu and dietary guidelines, considering any special dietary restrictions or allergies.
Menu Planning:
Work with the Director or designated staff to create age-appropriate menus that meet the nutritional requirements as outlined by DSS regulations.
Food Safety & Sanitation:
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, following proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures. Ensure all kitchen equipment is used and maintained properly. Compliance with
Regulations:
Adhere to all South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) regulations regarding food preparation, serving, and kitchen practices. Ensure that food portions are served according to the specific age group.
Inventory Management:
Monitor food inventory and order supplies as needed. Ensure that food items are stored properly to prevent spoilage and waste.
Health & Safety:
Ensure that all kitchen staff and helpers follow health and safety protocols, including food storage and handling procedures.
Collaboration:
Work with childcare staff to ensure children’s dietary needs are met and communicate effectively regarding any concerns related to meals or snacks.
Record Keeping:
Maintain records of meal counts, food preparation logs, and allergy lists, and ensure that meal plans comply with DSS requirements.
Nutritional Education:
Provide guidance to staff and children regarding healthy eating habits and promote wellness in the facility.
Requirements Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. A food safety certification (e.g., ServSafe) is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in food preparation or cooking in a childcare, school, or similar setting. Prior experience in a DSS-regulated environment is a plus.
Knowledge:
Understanding of child nutrition, food allergies, and dietary restrictions. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
Skills:
Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. Must be able to follow directions and adapt to the needs of children with special dietary needs.
Physical Requirements:
