INFANT/TODDLER EHS CO-TEACHER
Lancaster County First Steps- Early Head Start Program Lancaster, SC 29720 SUMMARY Plans and implements activities for a classroom for up to four (4) infants and toddlers. This planning must be coordinated with the other Infant/Toddler Teacher assigned to the same classroom and 4 other children to implement primary caregiving. She/he works in cooperation with Infant/Toddler Teachers, parents and volunteers to provide an age-appropriate, individualized learning environment in the classroom. Performance Standards Early Childhood Education High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 1-2 years of early child development or related experience in working with infants and toddlers and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. CDA or Early Childhood Development Certificate required. Must sign an education plan to obtain CDA or ECD Certificate within 9 months of employment if hired without minimal educational requirement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Primary Provides primary care and supervision for up to 4 infants/toddlers in a classroom of 8 children. Implements comprehensive curriculum plans with age-appropriate activities for infants/toddlers. Communicates on a regular basis with parents re: their child’s activities during the day. Completes written reports on a daily basis, such as attendance, developmental observations, significant behavior changes, etc. Maintain confidentiality of children’s and parents’ needs, progress and records. Assists with regular sanitation of classroom environment (toys, surfaces, meal items, etc.) Prepares and posts weekly lesson plans for infant/toddler classroom. Conducts parent conferences, at least twice per year or as needed. Conducts home visits, at least twice per year or as needed.
I/T EHS CO-TEACHER 2
Implements a learning environment that meets Head Start Performance Standards, SC Child Care Licensing regulations, CACFP, ABC Quality, and NAEYC guidelines. Acts as a role model and mentor to other staff and parents. Assists in providing guidance and training for classroom volunteers. Assesses children with an appropriate assessment tool and develops objectives based on each child’s individual developmental needs on each child within 45 days of enrollment (complete screenings). Uses information from assessment and observation to assist in identifying children who may have special needs. Participate in
IEP/IFSP
meetings, provide appropriate activities and implement
IEP/IFSP
goals and objectives. Completes a daily health check on each child in the classroom, record findings, and make referrals when needed. Attends parent activities and serves in a support role for parents. Maintains confidentiality of children, parents, and staff.
REASONING ABILITY
to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Employee must pass a physical, TB screening, and satisfactory background clearance from SC Department of Social Services.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Employee must develop working knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, SC Child Care Regulations, ABC Quality, CACFP and NAEYC guidelines. Must be 18 years old and possess a valid high school diploma, with at least 1 year of experience in working in a classroom with infants and toddlers. Head Start experience preferred.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Operate a desktop computer, related software, printer, copier, fax and phone.
