Job Summary
Designs, develops, implements, coordinates, monitors, evaluates, and revises programs of Literacy in the district that is aligned to the Science of Reading.
Essential functions
1. Leads, directs, and manages reading/language arts program operations; recruits, selects, orients, trains, coaches, and supports Principals, Coaches, Teachers, and district staff.
2. Collaborates in development of reading instruction program philosophies, goals, and objectives and facilitates implementation.
3. Leads the design, implementation and monitoring of K-5 reading and language arts instructional programs. Leads in develoment, revision, and montoring of the k-12 Comprehensive Reading Plan required by the state department of education.
4. Creates reading and English/Language Arts instructional frameworks.
5. Collaborates in professional development for school administration, teachers, coaches, and district staff.
6. Coordinates articulation between elementary and secondary reading programs.
7. Assists Principals with implementation of school improvement plans and goals to improve student literacy achievement.
8. Provides services and support, demonstrations, conferring and consulting to individual schools and classrooms for the specific purpose of improving teacher competency in literacy.
9. Serves on District, state or community councils/committees as assigned or appropriate.
10. Prepares, or oversees the preparation of literacy assessment and analysis.
11.Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s in Reading preferred
Experience:
Five (5) years experience in grades K-5 including implementation, monitoring, program evaluation and professional development of reading programs.
Certifications & Licenses:
Must be eligible for Florida Department of Education Certification in
Reading or Administration & Supervision or Educational Leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Deep knowledge of the Science of Reading
Knowledge of federal, state and district legislation related to instruction
Knowledge of district instructional policies and standards
Knowledge of instructional design methodologies including using a variety of developmentally appropriate teaching methods aligned to student’s learing priority.
Knowledge of current trends and research-proven strategies and programs in alignment with
district priorities
Knowledge of leadership strategies that embrace transformational sustained improvement
Deep knowledge of reading assessement writing Strong supervisory management skills
Strong program implementation skills
Strong program monitoring and evaluation skills
Strong word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills
Strong time management skills
Strong creative problem solving skills
Strong skills in the models/programs provided to schools
Ability to forge partnerships with community organizations, corporate partners, Department of
Education (DOE), Florida Reading Association, university and professional reading experts,
product and service providers and district consultants
Ability to develop strategies and tactics to achieve organizational goals through academic equitable outcomes for all students
Ability to manage team activities
Ability to implement continuous improvement processes
Ability to manage multiple tasks
Ability to facilitate meetings
Ability to partner with parent-teacher groups, advisory groups and student groups
Ability to analyze and diagnose the reading proficiency of individual students, groups, and/or classes, through formal assessment, observations, and informal evaluation measures
