JOB DESCRIPTION JOB GOAL

This employee will be a member of the school staff responsible for the leadership, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the district balance literacy framework.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree in Education preferred. Reading Endorsement or Master’s Degree in Reading required. Successful experience conducting professional development activities preferably in reading and/or experience in other leadership roles. Successful teaching experience required. Five years of successful teaching experience. Experience in reading curriculum, assessment, and instruction. Valid Florida Teaching Certificate. Valid Florida Driver’s License. Appropriate grade level experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to read and write English. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to teachers, parents, administrators, and the public. Ability to speak clearly and concisely, both in oral and written communication. Ability to develop and present training sessions. Ability to understand and apply adult learning theories and practices when working with staff and parents. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to design, plan, organize, and coordinate training. Ability to model and demonstrate strategies in others’ classrooms and has training in current reading best practices.

The Reading Coach will not directly supervise employees.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Models for teachers by instructing students at least 51% of the instructional time. Provides specialized instruction and assessment strategies to teachers through demonstration and modeling. Facilitates the review, evaluation, and integration of reading resources. Acquaints teachers with successful and innovative strategies for classroom instruction and assessment. Provides information about materials and resources. Works with the district Curriculum Specialist for Reading to promote the district reading initiatives. Collaborates with other departments, schools/districts to emphasize balanced literacy. Remains current through study and discussion of professional literature, membership in professional organizations and attendance. Performs other related duties to promote literacy as necessary and as assigned. Assists reading assessment of individual students as needed. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Ten (10) months. Teacher Salary Schedule. Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
