Position Overview:

Bak Middle School is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Speech and Debate Teacher to lead our middle school program. The ideal candidate will have a passion for public speaking, critical thinking, and helping students develop strong communication skills. This is a full-time, salaried position with responsibilities including classroom instruction, team coaching, competition preparation, and student mentorship.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and teach a comprehensive speech and debate curriculum for middle school students (grades 6-8) Teach fundamentals of public speaking, argumentation, research, rhetoric, and competitive debate formats (e.g., Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, Congressional Debate, etc.) Coach and mentor students for local, regional, and national speech and debate competitions Organize and supervise practice sessions and team meetings Travel with the team to tournaments and ensure a positive, supportive environment Collaborate with other faculty and staff to integrate communication skills across disciplines Maintain accurate records of student progress, team performance, and participation Foster an inclusive, respectful, and motivating environment for all learners

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred) Previous teaching and/or coaching experience in speech and debate (middle school level preferred) Strong knowledge of debate formats and tournament procedures Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends for tournaments. Passion for working with middle school students and helping them build confidence and critical thinking skills
