Full Job Description NCS Elementary Reading Specialist Position Job Summary:

To foster academic excellence, spiritual development, and personal growth in students by focusing on improving their reading and literacy skills and enabling them to become confident and proficient readers.

Reports to:
Elementary Principal Responsibilities:

The reading interventionist will work extensively with students to help them improve specific reading skills such as letter-naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, and comprehension strategies. The reading interventionist will address the specific needs of a particular child when they require additional support beyond classroom instruction. The interventionist will become familiar with the current school reading curriculum and work with the teacher to design methods of learning that are most appropriate for each child. Assessment and Identification Collaborate with school administration and teachers to identify who may benefit from reading intervention. Conduct assessments and use data to create personalized reading profiles for students receiving services. Individualized Reading Plans/Lesson Plans Develop and implement individualized reading intervention plans based on learning needs/styles and grade-level expectations. Develop lesson plans to incorporate reading based standards and strategies to improve student literacy skills. Progress Monitoring Regularly assess and monitor student reading progress. Adjust intervention strategies as needed to ensure growth and academic success. Regularly communicate with school leadership, teachers, and parents to keep them informed about student progress, areas of improvement, and areas that may need additional support. Record Keeping Maintain accurate records of student progress, intervention plans, and assessment results. Ensure that data is accessible to teachers, parents, and school administrators as needed. Biblical Integration Incorporate Christian values and principles into reading interventions, fostering a deep connection between faith and literacy. Select reading materials that align with the school’s mission, ensuring that students have the opportunity to engage with content that reflects Biblical values. Foster an environment where students can connect their reading experiences to their faith journey. Professional Development Stay updated on the latest research and educational trends in reading intervention. Attend conferences, workshops, and training sessions on a regular basis to improve and enrich the school’s reading intervention program. Collaborate with administration to provide additional training and support to classroom teachers. Qualifications A strong commitment to Christian faith and values, aligned with the school’s mission Bachelor’s Degree or higher in education, specifically with a focus in reading. Reading endorsement or relevant coursework and training is preferred. Relevant work experience is strongly preferred. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Ability to connect with elementary-age students. Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
