Job Description

Democratic Knowledge Project Summer Institute Description:

This three-day in-person institute focuses on the Democratic Knowledge Project’s 8th-grade year-long civic education curriculum, “Civic Engagement in our Democracy.” The curriculum aligns with MA state standards and the national Educating for American Democracy roadmap. “Civic Engagement in Our Democracy” has been recognized by the MA Dept of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) as one of only four core civics curricular materials found to meet DESE’s expectations for high quality. Participants will be able to actively engage with core principles and tools, learn from experienced educator mentors, and enhance their civic learning. The institute is open to educators who are part of the DKP Launch 2025 MA Cohort at Whittier, Lafayette, and Keverian.

Required Education/Experience:

Must currently be employed as the Grade 8 Civics Teacher at the Whittier School, Lafayette or Keverian School Must complete registration for the Democratic Knowledge Project site

Responsibilities:

Attend and actively participate in three full days of Professional Development Sessions at the Monroe C. Gutman Library in Cambridge from July 15-17, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Prepare and plan to implement the Civic Engagement in Our Democracy curriculum with 8th-grade students next year, including primary source investigations and historical inquiry, creation of student portfolios, and analysis of student work against established success criteria.

Remuneration:

$840 based on 21 hours of work at $40 per hour
