Location:

Wilmington, NC and surrounding areas Thrive Tutoring is seeking part-time reading tutors who are Orton-Gillingham trained to support struggling readers in grades K-5 across the Wilmington, NC area. The primary goal of this position is to help students strengthen their foundational literacy skills through structured, evidence-based intervention . We are especially interested in educators with a strong background in reading instruction and intervention, particularly those with experience supporting students with dyslexia or other language-based learning differences.

Duties:

Assess students’ current reading levels and monitor growth over time Prepare high-impact, structured literacy lessons using the Orton-Gillingham approach Conduct engaging, one-on-one tutoring sessions tailored to each student’s specific needs Travel to students’ homes for tutoring—travel required across the Wilmington area in after-school and early evening hours Maintain professional communication with the Thrive team, students, and families Coordinate schedules with families and Thrive’s support staff Collaborate with students’ teachers (as appropriate) to align instruction and share progress updates Analyze assessment data to inform instructional decisions Develop individualized learning plans in collaboration with the Thrive team Provide clear, consistent feedback to parents after each session Share follow-up action steps or reminders with students Follow through on all instructional and scheduling commitments

Qualifications:

Orton-Gillingham certification or equivalent structured literacy training required Minimum of 2 years of experience in reading intervention Strong understanding of reading development and effective intervention strategies Experience with RTI (Response to Intervention) and Tier 2/Tier 3 support Dependable, well-organized, and committed to student success Self-starter who is comfortable working independently in a flexible environment Demonstrated success in helping students make academic progress Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Empathetic, student-centered, and passionate about literacy and equity in education
