Through data-informed, research-based literacy interventions, this educator helps ensure that every child becomes a confident, proficient reader and writer. The Literacy Specialist collaborates with classroom teachers and school staff to identify student needs, deliver targeted small-group and one-on-one interventions, and monitor progress over time. Rooted in the school’s mission of joy, belonging, and purpose, the Literacy Specialist/Interventionist advances equitable outcomes by ensuring that all students-especially those who need additional support-receive the personalized instruction they deserve. This position reports to the Assistant Principal of Instruction. ResponsibilitiesDuties Implement Research-Based Literacy Interventions Plan and deliver targeted small-group and one-on-one literacy interventions aligned with evidence-based practices. Use diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to identify students in need of intervention and tailor support accordingly. Provide explicit instruction in foundational literacy skills, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies. Monitor Student Progress and Outcomes Analyze student data regularly to monitor growth and adjust intervention plans. Maintain clear, consistent records of intervention sessions, strategies used, and student outcomes. Collaborate with classroom teachers to align intervention goals with core classroom instruction. Build a Literacy-Rich, Equitable Environment Foster a love of reading and writing through engaging, culturally responsive materials and instruction. Create a positive, affirming learning environment where all students feel seen, respected, and capable. Promote student agency and confidence in literacy development. Collaborate and Communicate Partner with grade-level teachers, instructional leaders, support staff, and families to create cohesive literacy support plans. Participate in student support team meetings and contribute expertise in reading development and intervention. Communicate regularly with families about student progress, strategies for support, and celebration of growth. Additional Responsibilities Participate in and deliver school-wide professional development and contribute to a culture of adult learning. Support school events, initiatives, and service-learning projects. Perform other duties as assigned to support the school’s mission. EducationExperience Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Reading, or a related field required; Master’s Degree or Reading Specialist certification strongly preferred.

Valid Pennsylvania teaching certification required (Reading Specialist certification preferred). Minimum of two years teaching experience, with demonstrated success in literacy instruction and/or intervention. Strong knowledge of research-based literacy frameworks and intervention programs (e.g., LETRS, Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, etc.).
