Function:
To help provide instructional services that will enable each student to master the reading skills appropriate to age, grade level, and individual capacity. Instruction will be provided in a classroom setting. The Reading Teacher works directly under the School Principal.
Essential Duties and Respnsibilites:
Interprets student needs and progress in reading remediation to the classroom teacher and the parents. Prepares for students assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor and /or principal. Confers with parents concerning individual students having special reading problems or requiring special help, and with any parents requesting such a conference. Maintains individual student reading record folders. Keeps attendance records and all records pertinent to the reading program for city and state reports. Develops, with the advice of the student’s regular classroom teacher, an instructional program for each assigned student receiving reading instruction. Meets with each assigned student on a regularly scheduled daily basis to provide instruction. Assists in the selection of varied instructional materials, equipment, audio-visual aids, bits, and the like. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Evaluates student progress regularly. Attends scheduled staff meetings and committee meetings as needed. Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods. Provides for their professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at an institute of higher learning. Assists in the screening, evaluating, and recommending placement of students who are referred for service. Performs other general related tasks as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications:
RIDE certified Reading Teacher/Specialist Three (3) years of successful teaching experience. Preparation in a graduate-level program for reading specialists with at least six (6) semester hours of clinic or practicum experience. Ability to relate with students and establish a good rapport with classroom teachers and principals. Experience as a Reading Teacher preferred Employer Research Help for Employer Information. .
