Reading Specialist/Consultant
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master’s Degree in area of reading2. Rhode Island Certification as a Reading Teacher/Specialist3. Rhode Island Certification as an elementary teacher4. Three years of successful teaching experience in the elementary grades5. Reading Recovery certified

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
School Year. All conditions per contractual agreement with School Committee
JOB GOAL
To provide staff and students with reading support that will enable each elementary student to master the reading skills appropriate to age, grade level and individual capacity.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Work with small groups of children to meet individual needs in extended readiness or corrective reading as appropriate to age, grade level and individual capacity.2. Ability to diagnose individual needs and prescribe appropriate methods and materials for learning.3. Provide diagnostic, evaluative, interpretive services for students and staff.4. Guide teacher aide(s) in supervision of and work with small groups of children.5. Provide methods and materials for reinforcement by aide of daily lessons.6. Confer with parents concerning progress and needs in individual students.7. Confer with teachers on a weekly basis concerning progress and needs in individual students.8. Select and requisition instructional materials/supplies as needed.9. Provide reading orientation and guidance for staff members.10. Work cooperatively with staff in the planning, development and implementation of Language Arts Frameworks.11. Coordinates and cooperates with the building principal in formulating in-service training programs for staff and parents.12. Consult with members of the special service teams as appropriate.13. Attend Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings/IEP conferences as needed.14. Devise and maintain such records and reports as are necessary to the successful execution of the job.15.
