Position Summary
Providepetent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise. Classes are taught day, evening, and weekends on the Decatur and Huntsville/Research Park campuses and several off-campus sites. In addition, multiple forms of distance education are offered. The instructor will ad to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the Calhoun Community College Personnel Handbook, the Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the Alabama Community College System policy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teach at varied times and places and in varied formats based on student demand; day or evening, on the Decatur and Huntsville/Research Park Campus or at other sites, including dual enrollment, traditional classroom, hybrid or web format, and distance education
Providepetent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of the credentialed expertise. Evaluate students’ progress in all classes according to institutional, divisional, departmental, and individual criteria.
Collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records, including grades, attendance rosters, absences, withdrawals, and/or class drop information to appropriate offices.
Assist in the development of discipline-specific student learning oue objectives.
Assess student learning using multiple assessment strategies.
Analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students to improve and expand student learning.
Prepare or assist in preparing materials used in academic administration when requested, including course syllabi, program outlines, course scheduling, and catalog material.
Participate in scheduled in-service activities, Honor’s Day, and Graduation ceremonies
Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work. Maintain assigned office hours.
Maintain or increasepetency in the chosen specialty by seeking new kledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professionalpetencies.
Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.
Recruit students for enrollment in natural science majors.
Perform all duties with professionalism.
Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the instructional program.
When appointed or elected, serve onmittees that further the institution’s work.
Be familiar with instructional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog, Personnel Handbook, and Alabama Community College System Policy Manual, and follow such policies and procedures.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Physics from an accredited institution is required.
Documented teaching experience at the college level as an instructor or graduate teaching assistant is required.
Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and aplishments:
Effective oral and writtenmunication skills;
A proven track record of successful teaching experience in college-level physics/physical science courses;
A broad kledge of the physical sciences, including physics, astronomy, chemistry, physical geography, geology, meteorology, and environmental science;
Experience teaching laboratories in the physical sciences.
Previous experience using course management systems (e.g., Blackboard, WebCT, Canvas, etc.) from an instructor standpoint;
Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
Understanding of the broad range of students’ abilities in an open admissions college and the ability to amodate varied learning styles;
Ability to deal effectively with students, other employees, and the public;
Commitment to all students, including those of diverse ages, cultures, genders, religious affiliations, ethnic backgrounds, and physical and cognitive abilities;
An understanding of andmitment to the philosophy and mission of themunity college system;
Demonstration of successful problem-solving skills;
Ability to conduct individual and small group instruction;
Ability to learn new teaching pedagogy and new software, as required;
Willingness and desire to learn new things and that learning;
A positive attitude regardless of circumstances at hand;
Confidence in decision-making andmunication skills
Documented successful experience teaching and developing web-based courses.
