  • Benefits## Position SummaryProvide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.

Classes are taught day, evening, and weekends on the Decatur and Huntsville/Research Park campuses and several off-campus sites. In addition, multiple forms of distance education are offered. The instructor will adhere to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the Calhoun Community College Personnel Handbook, the Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the Alabama Community College System policy.

Teach at varied times and places and in varied formats based on student demand; day or evening, on the Decatur and Huntsville/Research Park Campus or at other sites, including dual enrollment, traditional classroom, hybrid or web format, and distance education2. Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of the credentialed expertise.3. Evaluate students’ progress in all classes according to institutional, divisional, departmental, and individual criteria.4. Collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records, including grades, attendance rosters, absences, withdrawals, and/or class drop information to appropriate offices.5. Assist in the development of discipline-specific student learning outcome objectives.6. Assess student learning using multiple assessment strategies.7. Analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students to improve and expand student learning.8. Prepare or assist in preparing materials used in academic administration when requested, including course syllabi, program outlines, course scheduling, and catalog material.9. Participate in scheduled in-service activities, Honors Day, and Graduation ceremonies10. Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.11. Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work. Maintain assigned office hours.12. Maintain or increase competency in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies.13. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.14. Recruit students for enrollment in natural science majors.15. Perform all duties with professionalism.16. Provi e advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the instructional program.17. When appointed or elected, serve on committees that further the institution’s work.18. Become familiar with instructional policies and procedures as outlined in the

  • College Catalog, Personnel Handbook, and Alabama Community College System Policy Manual,
  • and follow such policies and procedures.

## Qualifications1. A minimum of a Masters degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Physics from an accredited institution is required.2. Documented teaching experience at the college level as an instructor or graduate teaching assistant is required.

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments:

Effective oral and written communication skills;A proven track record of successful teaching experience in college-level physics/physical science courses;A broad knowledge of the physical sciences, including physics, astronomy, chemistry, physical geography, geology, meteorology, and environmental science;Experience teaching laboratories in the physical sciences.
