BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum Bachelors degree in Family Consumer Science, Home Economics, college/university, or related field, or meet all requirements of the Bachelors Equivalent Technical Education Certificate upon hire.
Must hold a valid Alabama Teaching Certification or valid certification in another state with the ability to obtain reciprocity in six (6) months.
Possess skills in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters Degree in Family Consumer Science, Home Economics.
One (1) year or more of classroom experience.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Must have or obtain a VI Certification within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
Must learn Braille, including becoming a National Library of Congress certified Braille Transcriptionist within the first thirty-six (36) months of employmentOrientation and Mobility training required within twelve (12) months of hireMust pass Family and Consumer Science Praxis within 24 months of hire if degree is not in Family and Consumer Science.
Must complete and maintain CPR/First Aid training within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
Provide comprehensive instruction to students at ASB that includes developing and implementing lesson plans, maintaining documentation of student progress in subject matter, use of differentiated instruction that is based on individual student needs.
Develop and implement an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each assigned student in the ASB program based on school curriculum and state standards. Must be able to conduct IEP meetings with parents and colleagues.
Develop, submit, and implement course overviews, lesson plans, substitute teacher plans, etc.
Develop and maintain a classroom learning environment conducive to individual student achievement.
Determine student programmatic needs relative to materials and supplies, submit requests/recommendations as deemed appropriate.
Evaluate and report as deemed appropriate, the students progress and modify student instruction accordingly.
Determine standards for classroom behavior and provide discipline measures for students according to the standards set by ASB Student Handbook.
Maintain such records and reports as deemed appropriate (grades, attendance, IEPs, testing, and etc.) and assist in explainin to parents.
Develop and maintain a positive learning atmosphere and environment.
Cooperate and communicate effectively and professionally with all matters regarding the student, the department, the school, and AIDB, to parents, other teachers, administrators, support personnel, and related school staff, and the general public.
Punctual and regular in attending classes, meetings, conferences, and other school-related duties.
Participate in workshops and staff in-service programs as scheduled.
Assist with in-service training for personnel within the school, state, or region.
Exhibit appropriate grooming and dress, which serves as an acceptable role model for students.
Maintain working knowledge of AIDB Policies and Procedures, ASB Staff Manual, and ASB Student Handbook.
Attend and/or assist in various extracurricular activities.
Other duties as assigned.
