STATEMENT
The purpose of the ML Content Area Team-Elementary is to develop and/or support the implementation of curriculum, instruction and assessment in the respective content areas. Participants will engage in leadership training to build capacity and increase teacher collective efficacy. This form of teacher-to-teacher support is grounded in the research as teachers work collaboratively to: Build instructional knowledge and skills; Create opportunities for teachers to share skills and experience; Provide actionable feedback on student learning; and Involve teachers in decision making The creation of the ML CAT in SPS will provide the time and space for teachers to come together to discuss current practices, identify and research opportunities for possible professional development for content teachers, and make recommendations to the Teaching and Learning Department. ML CAT is a space for building teacher capacity centered on learning, dialoguing, and thinking about solutions. Members will create the final deliverables to the content area teachers in August during Professional Development. The Stamford Public Schools (SPS) is committed to preparing all students for both higher education and lifelong learning and to providing high quality, rigorous curriculum and instruction across all subject areas for all students. Successful implementation of curriculum requires involvement of and continuous communication among all internal stakeholders throughout the curriculum cycle. Creating ML CAT district-wide will enable SPS to implement, monitor, and evaluate curriculum as part of a continuous cycle of systemic improvement. ML CAT will be created as follows: ML CAT – Elementary (5 – 7 members)
OBJECTIVES OF THE COMMITTEE
The vision of the ML CAT is to use a process of continuous improvement to create comprehensive and vertically aligned programming in SPS to support success and high achievement for all students.
This will be achieved through:
Meeting regularly to discuss progress and teacher needs in the current schedule. Making recommendations for curriculum, instruction, and assessment to provide all students high quality instruction in SPS. Ensuring successful implementation of a shared vision through collaboration, analysis, and reflection.
WHO IS ENCOURAGED TO APPLY
: All SEA Elementary members who are: Certified and currently teaching in the content area to which they are applying. Committed to high quality, rigorous, supportive, and equitable instruction for all SPS students. Knowledgeable and/or passionate about instruction, curriculum, and assessment. Willing to work independently and collaboratively during and between meetings. Willing to share information and collect feedback from school-based colleagues. Willing to participate in the scheduled meetings
TBD. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current Connecticut Teaching Certificate . Demonstrated superior organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Willing to work independently and collaboratively during and between meetings. Prepared to share information with colleagues. Completion of online application, including additional questions section.
WORK YEAR
Up to 5-10 hours per month for the school year Meeting dates TBD by the ML CAT for summer work Final curricula should be submitted by early August. Present the final deliverables to the content area teachers in August during Professional Development.
