Job Summary Maintain continued competence in assigned and related areas. Foster a positive working relationship with students, faculty, staff, and community members. Assist in the College’s recruitment and retention efforts. Serve on college committees periodically to support college governance. Adhere to college rules, regulations, and state guidelines applicable to faculty responsibilities. Teach wherever and whenever assigned as determined by instructional needs, including branch centers and dual enrollment courses in district high schools. Responsible for demonstrating LSSC’s core values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating, and Celebrating when interacting with students, employees, visitors, and community members. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Plan and implement instructional activities that maximize student learning and achievement.
Supervise students in accordance with program procedures, addressing academic and course-related concerns.
Teach assigned courses in accordance with the course descriptions.
Works a minimum of 35 hours per week, which includes 15 classroom hours, 10 office or student contact hours, and 10 hours as needed by the instructor.
Assist with registration and recruitment as needed.
Provide each student with a course syllabus that outlines performance objectives, course expectations, grading procedures, withdrawal policies, class attendance policies, and contact information for the office, including the phone number and email address.
Function as a member of faculty committees to develop the College’s instructional program and educational philosophy.
Attend all scheduled or called meetings by the President or Vice President of Academic Affairs, Deans, and Department Chairs unless excused by the administrator in charge.
Teach all classes for the full period as scheduled.
Evaluate student progress and achievement using clear methods outlined in the course syllabus.
Utilize evaluation results for planning, instruction, counseling, and program modification.
Keep accurate and up-to-date records.
Submit grade reports and other required data on or before the deadline dates.
Resolve discipline problems within the sphere of responsibility.
Assist and counsel students as needed, including during office and campus hours.
Utilize the necessary materials and equipment to accomplish designated tasks.
Demonstrate knowledge of current instructional developments.
Regularly examines the content of assigned courses and recommends changes to the curriculum committee as needed.
Comply with applicable administrative rules, regulations, and Board Policy.
Participate in an annual evaluation process as specified by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Participate in Commencement Activities. Maintain continuity of communication with students, the community, faculty, staff, and supervisors by responding promptly to meetings, phone calls, mail, and email requests.
Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to demonstrate the four College Service Excellence Standards of respect, competence, responsiveness, and collaboration when interacting with students, employees, visitors, and community members. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
Minimum Qualifications & Education Required:
Master’s Degree in Chemistry, or another related field.
18 graduate semester hours in teaching discipline.
Preferred:
Doctorate in Chemistry, or another related field.

Experience Required:
