Job Summary:

Pamlico Community College invites applications for an Environmental Science Faculty position. The successful candidate will deliver a combination of traditional classroom instruction and online teaching, integrating innovative pedagogical methodsincluding AI-driven tools and modern learning management systems to enhance student engagement and academic success. This role is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses and advancing academic excellence and student success by teaching day, evening, and online/partial internet classes as required while adhering to departmental course guidelines and maintaining all required college records. The candidate must actively participate in departmental, divisional, and college-wide advising, recruitment, and outcome assessment activities. As a Subject Matter Expert, the successful applicant will also hire, supervise, and evaluate adjunct faculty, in addition to assuming other duties as required by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

Education

  • A Masters degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Sustainability, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.

Experience

  • Proven success in both traditional classroom teaching and online course development, with a strong background in curriculum design and instructional technology integration
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate innovative teaching strategies, including the use of new emerging technology tools, to enhance learning outcomes
  • Experience in academic advising, student recruitment, and participation in QEP or similar continuous improvement initiatives is highly desirable.

Skills and Abilities

  • Expertise in designing and implementing interactive learning experiences that promote student engagement and success
  • Proficiency with various learning management systems and online classroom technologies
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with a commitment to fostering an inclusive academic environment
  • Additional graduate credit hours or credentials in related subjects are preferred.

Essential Job Functions

  • Hybrid Instruction:

    Deliver high-quality, engaging Environmental Science courses using both traditional in-person methods and online platforms (e.g., Moodle, Canvas, Google Classroom)

  • Curriculum and Course Design:

    Develop and update course materials, syllabi, and lesson plans that reflect current trends in environmental science, sustainability, and technology-enhanced learning. Modernize Environmental programs to include more opportunities for third party credentials and trainings

  • Innovative Teaching Methods:

    Utilize AI-powered platforms and interactive digital tools to create personalized, dynamic learning experiences that cater to diverse student needs

  • Timely Feedback and Office Hours:

    Ensure timely feedback on tests, papers, and assignments; maintain posted office hours to support student learning

  • Student Advising and Mentoring:

    Advise students in accordance with college guidelines by monitoring progress, providing timely feedback, and addressing learning gaps

  • Recruitment and Outreach:

    Actively participate in student recruitment efforts, promoting the Environmental Science program to prospective students and community stakeholders

  • Quality Enhancement Initiatives:

    Assist with the implementation, monitoring, and assessment of Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) initiatives, ensuring continuous improvement in program outcomes and compliance with institutional standards

  • Administrative Participation:

    Participate in scheduled program, division, and advisory committee meetings; adhere to policies, procedures, and deadlines related to the position

  • Faculty Collaboration:

    Collaborate with departmental colleagues, communicate actively and positively with students, colleagues, staff, and a ministrators, and work as part of a team

  • Professional Development:

    Engage in workshops, conferences, and training to stay current with emerging ideas and practices, demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning and innovation

Additional Responsibilities:

Participate in non-professional committees and other duties as assigned to further enhance the academic environment. Actively recruit for the college and environmental science programs.
