Job Description UncommonHigh School Science teachers work collaboratively across thenetwork to prepare all students with the tools and knowledge tocritically engage in the field of science and develop them intoself-directed learners. At the heart of all Science courses isinquiry-based learning, including a robust focus on studentdiscourse and the science practices. Science teachers employ avariety of instructional strategies to develop a passion forscientific questioning and analysis in their students. Our teachersprepare all students such that they have the choice to study andexcel in any STEM discipline. We prepare all students to be citizenscientists that have the tools and knowledge to critically engagein the field of science regardless of their university major orprofessional career. Our teachers become experts in their coursecontent and have a keen sense of how to motivate and inspire highschool students. Responsibilities 1. Instruction
- You’ll teach acurriculum that includes, but is not limited to, analysis ofBiology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Sciences thatprepares students for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate levelcoursework.
- You’ll develop students’ practices skills ofquestioning, modeling, constructing explanations, data analysis,argumentation, and planning and conducting interactive labs.
- You’ll create an environment where students feel confident usingtheir voice to engage in scientific discourse.
- You willfacilitate student-led discourse, during which students useevidence to make sophisticated claims and synthesize and critiquearguments.
- You’ll facilitate student-led inquiry of variousscientific topics and engage students in lab and project-basedperformance tasks.
- You’ll work with the Science department todetermine academic and engagement goals for students. 2. DataAnalysis
- You’ll meet weekly with your principal and/orinstructional coach to analyze and respond to trends in studentwork samples and assessments.
- You’ll learn and implementstrategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in yourclassroom. 3. School Culture
- You’ll build positive relationshipswith students to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard.
- You’llpartner with students’ families to ensure appropriate resources areavailable to support their child’s learning needs.
- You’ll engagein practice-based professional development, mentorship, andcoaching sessions.
- You’ll participate in weekly, school-widemeetings to cultivate community, model our core values, andencourage student achievement.
- You’ll partner with your gradelevel team to develop academic goals and practice instructionalstrategies. Qualifications

Required Experience:
- A demonstrated interest inimpacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 yearsexperience preferred).
- Academic expertise in Science, Technology,Engineering, Mathematics, or other related fields of study.
- Priorto the start of employment, you must have a bachelor’s degree froman accredited college or university.
Certification is not requiredto be hired at Uncommon, but you do need to meet NY statecertification eligibility requirements. To meet these requirements,you must enroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain a GPAof 2.75 or higher during your employment with us if you do not havea degree in education. Uncommon Schools teachers are required tobecome certified in the state of New York within a reasonableperiod after beginning employment. Additional Information Ourpeople are what make us Uncommon. Ourcompensation philosophy values equity & fairness and attracting &retaining top talent. Compensation Compensation for this role isbetween $50,000 to $64,700. Starting pay is determined usingvarious factors including but not limited to relevant full-timeteaching experience, education certifications, and tenure withUncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time Teaching experiencewill likely have a starting salary of $50,000. Benefits
