Part-time GED Math and Science Instructor 3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 42-07 Parsons Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11355 The YWCA of Queens is seeking a Part-time GED Math and Science teacher for two classes starting August 4th, 2025 on Wednesdays, 6 teaching hours per week. Pay Rate:
$43 per hour
Duties:
- Prepare lesson plans and teach math and science classes to adult students.
- Motivate students to attend and follow through with the program.
- Develop lesson plans and teaching methods to meet participants’ varying needs, abilities, and interests as well as to ensure maximum attendance.
- Observe and evaluate students’ work to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement. Prepare and implement remedial work for students requiring extra help.
- Conduct assessment of student outcomes and document student achievement.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records.
- Meet with other staff members to assess the progress of each participant. Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons that promote learning, following approved curricula.
- Assign and grade class work and homework as needed.
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. Help students improve on how they process information and communicate.
- Prepare students for further education by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
- Review instructional content, methods, and student evaluations to assess strengths and weaknesses, and to develop recommendations for course revision, development, or elimination. Share innovative ideas to improve the program.
- Reports to the Education Coordinator.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Math required.
- Minimum one year experience teaching basic math and science (5th through 9th grade levels). Preferred one year experience teaching GED course. Teaching license is a plus.
- Ability to work with Out of School Youth (OSY) as well as individuals from different cultures, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds.
- Ability to work one-on-one and in groups.
- Instructor must be willing to understand students’ current circumstances and instruct according to their short and long term goals.
- Ability to motivate students and communicate effectively to be successful.
- Ability to effectively document student progress and make instructional decisions based on this data.
