Job Summary:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Chemistry Teacher to join our team here at Summit Academy. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality chemistry instruction to students (6-12), fostering a passion for science, and promoting academic excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging chemistry lessons in accordance with the curriculum. Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments tailored to students’ needs. Teach a range of topics including atomic structure, chemical reactions, organic and inorganic chemistry, and laboratory safety. Conduct experiments and practical laboratory sessions safely and effectively. Monitor and evaluate student performance, providing feedback and academic support as needed. Maintain accurate student records including attendance, grades, and progress reports. Foster a positive learning environment and manage classroom behavior. Stay current with developments in chemistry and teaching best practices. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in department meetings, school events, and professional development. Prepare students for standardized exams and post-secondary science pathways.

Qualifications:

Either a PA professional teaching certificate OR a private teaching certificate which initially requires a four-year degree, including 6 semester hours in a core discipline. Temporary private teaching certification through the Pennsylvania Department of Education requires a bachelor’s degree and at least six credit hours in the subject area. Permanent private teaching certification will require earning a total of 18 semester hours in the core discipline and 6 semester hours in education. Credits required may be earned while working for The Academy Schools and tuition assistance will be provided.

Experience:

Previous teaching experience preferred, especially in secondary or post-secondary education. Experience with laboratory work and safety protocols.

Skills:

Strong subject matter knowledge in chemistry. Excellent communication and classroom management skills. Ability to engage and motivate diverse learners. Proficient in using technology for instruction and record-keeping.
