POSITION TITLE
Upward Bound Summer Instructor (Math, English, Science)
POSITION SUMMARY
The Summer Instructor for the Trio Upward Bound program is responsible for delivering academic instructionand support to high school students during a summer academic program. The instructor will create apositive and engaging learning environment that fosters student growth and motivation, while helpingparticipants develop essential skills in subjects such as math, science, literature, and college readiness.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
Curriculum Development:
Design and implement lesson plans that align with the program’seducational goals, incorporating hands-on activities, interactive learning techniques, andassessments.
Instruction:
Teach subjects as assigned, using diverse teaching methods that accommodate differentlearning styles and promote critical thinking and problem solving.
Student Support:
Provide academic advising and mentorship to participants, helping them set andachieve educational goals and explore post-secondary opportunities.
Collaboration:
Work alongside other instructors and program staff to coordinate activities and ensurea cohesive educational experience for students.
Evaluation and Reporting:
Monitor student progress and engagement, providing feedback andsupport as needed. Prepare reports on student performance and program effectiveness.
Community Engagement:
Foster relationships with participants’ families and the local community topromote a supportive environment for students’ educational journeys.
Performs other special projects as assigned.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in education, a relevant academic field, or equivalent experience.
Previous teaching or tutoring experience, especially with underrepresented youth.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate and engage students.
Commitment to promoting educational access and success for students from diverse backgrounds.

EXPERIENCE
Experience providing instruction in classroom setting
Working with high school students in an educational capacity
Working knowledge of South Carolina Content Standards in subject of instruction
Life experience with barriers similar to those from TRIO target populations, including but not limited to being a member of an underrepresented group in higher education, being a first- generationstudent, being from a low-income family, or having a disability
Knowledge of effective instructional methods and practices.
