Teaching Full Job Description Overview:
Clayton-Bradley Academy is in search of an Upper School Teacher with an understanding of instructing Chemistry. The position involves teaching Chemistry to 9th-12th grade students, and the schedule will be determined by the Upper School Principal. Applicants should be comfortable teaching freshmen to senior level physical science courses, including sophomore Chemistry, using the Next Generation Science Standards. High school students at CBA follow a traditional science sequencing. As freshman, Biology is the required science course. When students enter sophomore year, they choose between Physics and Chemistry. As juniors and seniors, students pick one-semester, half-credit classes that take a deep dive into a particular field of science. This position is responsible for teaching the sophomore level Chemistry class. Other courses that are associated with this position are semester based and include but are not limited to Astronomy, Organic Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, etc. We try to keep class preps down to 3 a semester based on student selection. This position would be responsible for deciding which upper level classes to offer and develop new classes, as needed, inside of our model. All teachers are required to adopt the Learning Centered School Model, and comprehensive training on this model will be provided for new teachers. The model encompasses various aspects, including classroom environment, pedagogy, and behavior management. Teachers are allocated time each week for collaborative efforts with their colleagues, fostering an integrated work environment.
Qualifications:
At least BA/BS in a physical science field with a preferred 3-5 years of classroom teaching experience.
Responsibilities:
Teachers at Clayton-Bradley Academy will: Building relationships with students is the key to helping students learn in the classroom. Follow the guidelines of Learning Centered School and implement the LCS model in the classroom as training and coaching are provided by CBA faculty and staff. Integrate content and curriculum both within grade levels and across grade levels through various projects and activities throughout the school year. Write curriculum using Next Generation Science Standards, grade using those standards, and communicate those standards to students and parents. Be an active participant in weekly Professional Development by engaging in the presentations, leading presentations occasionally, participating in Coaching/Mentoring groups, and developing SMART Goals. Communicate regularly with students and parents about activities of the class and upcoming events through Conferences Progress Report/Grades Quarterly Newsletters Uphold the Vision and Mission of the school. Participate in the community of CBA in Family Gatherings, Bobcat Buddies, Family Socials, Annual Fund Campaigns, Related Arts Gala, and others. Use Google Classroom as part of the instruction and communication with parents. Integrate technology into the instruction when it enhances learning. Support the academy’s policies/procedures, coaching advice for growth and improvement, and demonstrate professionalism both in the classroom and with staff.
