Stipend-Based Position Position Overview:

The Tech Camp Counselor will work exclusively with our technical theater students during the second half of camp, helping prepare them for a fully staged production of Legally Blonde JR. This hands-on role supports tech campers in set changes, prop handling, backstage operations, and basic scenic/costume support. The Tech Counselor ensures that young crew members are safe, focused, and prepared for their backstage responsibilities during rehearsals and performances. This position is perfect for someone with tech theater experience who enjoys working with youth and can help create a calm, focused backstage environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise and mentor a small group of tech campers (ages 11-17) as they learn backstage responsibilities Support rehearsal needs including scenic prep, prop handoffs, costume pre-sets, and transitions Guide students in backstage etiquette and safety Assist with tech week setup including labeling, organizing, and prepping items for quick changes or scene shifts Maintain backstage order and provide real-time problem-solving during shows Support the artistic and production team as needed with light painting, costume repairs, or set movement Ensure all tech campers are show-ready and in position for evening performances

Qualifications:

Experience in technical theater (stage crew, props, set, or costume work) Experience working with youth or teens in an educational or leadership capacity Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to stay calm and focused during fast-paced production environments Comfortable with physical tasks such as moving props or setting pieces CPR/First Aid certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain prior to camp)
