POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Social Work Faculty Mount Vernon Nazarene University exists to shape lives through educating the whole person and cultivating Christ-likeness for lifelong learning and service. Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) is an intentionally Christian teaching university for traditional age students, graduate students, and working adults who seek opportunities to learn and grow in an academic community of faith. The University provides the context for a transformational experience through excellent academics, service opportunities, caring relationships, and a nurturing spiritual and social environment. Faculty, staff, and students are challenged to achieve their highest potential, to become increasingly Christ-like and to make a difference in their world through lifelong service. The University is seeking a full-time (ten-month) Social Work Faculty member for its Social Work Program beginning in fall semester 2025. Rank is open. Compensation is competitive among the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Responsibilities include:
- Teaching courses in the traditional Social Work program
- Advising Social Work majors, ensuring that their academic progress meets requirements set by the institution, and working with students to encourage professional development
- Oversight of the BSW Program in the role of BSW Program Director
- Primary lead for BSW with CSWE accreditation activities
- Supporting departmental efforts for continued improvement of programs
- Assisting the department with recruiting prospective students
- Teaching courses in the Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) Social Work Program, as needed
- Assisting with the development of curriculum for the GPS Social Work Program, as needed
- Teaching on-line courses, as needed
- Serving the university through faculty committee participation
- Additional responsibilities in alignment with departmental and university needs Qualifications for the successful candidate:
- Evangelical Christian statement of faith, experience, and mission fit
- Personal commitment to Jesus Christ.
- Understanding and alignment of the heritage, doctrine, and practices of the Church of the Nazarene.
- MSW from a CSWE-accredited program with two or more years of post-MSW experience;
- Terminal degree in an appropriate field preferred
- Social Work licensure (LSW or LISW) preferred
- Evidence of scholarly potential
- Commitment to high quality and innovative social work classroom instruction
- Commitment to strategic program innovation and continuous improvement
- Evidence of successful previous teaching experience in higher education preferred
- Evidence of proficiency in online instruction and assessment technologies and software preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary for effective collaboration with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders
- Desire to help students succeed in the university setting; strong connectivity to adult college student needs
- Strong organizational, problem solving, and time management skills
- Proven ability to work well with others.
