To conduct and interpret individual psychological evaluations on referred students attending school within Cullman County school system according to professional standards for the purpose of educational decision- making. To assist the district in appropriate identification and evaluation. Maintain compliance for the special education and gifted education processes. To provide specialized instruction and services to meet the unique educational needs of students with visual impairments ages 3-21. Conduct functional vision/learning media assessments and provide written reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Psychometry license as issued by the State Department of Education (at the A or AA level). Valid Alabama teaching certificate in the grade level, subject area(s) assigned. Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with academic training in psychological testing. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities. Provide own or have access to appropriate transportation to meet job requirements. Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Proficiency in oral and written communication skills. Ability and knowledge of using word processing and/or computer scoring programs in preparing psychological reports. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, for the purpose of maximizing student achievement. Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable, such as licensed professionals with training in psychological testing.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of child development. Provide and coordinate unique specialized instruction through daily lessons reflective of the curriculum and the student’s IEP. Consult with classroom teachers, regular and special education personnel, parents, and students to coordinate programs and services for the visually impaired student. Coordinate large-type or Braille texts, supplementary materials, educational aids and equipment, monitor student’s maximum participation in all classroom activities. Provide instruction in the development and maintenance of skills as indicated in the IEP; low vision and visual efficiency skills, concept development and academic skills, daily living skills, communication skills, social/emotional skills and abilities, and sensory motor skills. Collaborative with Individual Education Plan (IEP) team in developing student IEPs, including goals and supplementary aids and services. Attend IEP meetings and required staff meetings. Conduct and interpret functional vision/learning media assessments and complete written reports. Compile and analyze data on student progress and use response to intervention to adjust interventions or strategies as indicated. Use technology to communicate and to enhance student learning. Plan and supervise the functions of classroom aides/assistants. Maintains appropriate student behavior control and establishes a productive classroom environment. Conduct and/or participate in IEP meetings or parent conferences. Administer assessments to include intellectual and achievement tests to students referred for possible eligibility for special education. Conduct and interpret psychological evaluations. Coordinate the eligibility process and assist in making appropriate placement recommendations. Assist in the development of procedures for referral, evaluation, and placement. Review referrals and request additional information, as needed. Consult with school personnel regarding appropriate referrals and matters related to job responsibilities. Re-evaluate currently enrolled students in special education according to the federal and state guidelines. Schedule testing and related activities with school personnel or parents, as appropriate. Follow federal, state, local, and professional guidelines for evaluation and eligibility. Administer appropriate tests or battery of tests. Prepare and present cases to the Eligibility Determination Committee, including original testing, re-evaluation, and transfer student information. Complete written reports of testing administered on a timely basis and in accordance with federal and state regulations. Serve as a resource to schools for teacher, parent, and student conferences when needed. Submit required reports as requested, including but not limited to, referral counts, testing numbers, re-evaluation status, and number of local school conferences. Respond to special and emergency requests for testing of students. Maintain a log of students tested by school including test date, type, results, and eligibility recommendation. Cooperate with other personnel agencies in securing and providing services to referred students. Keep informed of and meet federal, state, and local LEA requirements and regulations affecting special education students and non-discriminatory evaluation. Maintain proficiency in administration of current intellectual and diagnostic instruments. Assume responsibility for acting as a representative of the Cullman County Board of Education in the solution of problems which may affect specific job assignments. Certifies the district is current regarding all testing protocols and assessments. Adhere to local and state timelines and indicators with 100% compliance. Comply with federal and state laws and state and local board policies. Demonstrates computer literacy, such as the ability to utilize current technology to communicate, collect and analyze data. Supports school improvement initiatives by active participation in school activities, events, ceremonies, services and programs. Engages in personal professional growth, adheres to professional standards, and demonstrates professional ethics, sound judgment and leadership. Maintains confidentiality regarding student/school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner. Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies and state, federal and local laws. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
