JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE
College and Career Specialist
REPORTS TO
School Principal
JOB GOAL
To provide a comprehensive counseling and guidance program for high school students
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must meet applicable federal and state certification/qualification requirements for the position Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited senior institution of higher education Experience in a high school or college admissions setting Working knowledge of post-secondary programs, recruitment procedures, admission process, scholarships, and financial aid Proficiency in oral and written communication skills Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups Ability to proficiently use current technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information Ability to meet suitability criteria (background check) under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal and local law and the Board may require
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities Maintains up-to-date files on each senior student containing copies of all documents pertaining to the student’s application process to colleges/schools/programs Assists students with the process of college application, including application for financial aid Maintains an up-to-date library of colleges/schools/programs reference materials including college scholarship and financial aid resources Establishes and maintains open communication and positive relationships with college, school, and/or program admissions coordinators/officers Maintains a supply of current applications and information booklets for College Entrance Examination Board Tests and for the American College Testing Program Schedules visits from representatives of colleges and universities throughout the United States Obtains and disseminates information about financial aid programs Provides information to students, parents, teachers, and counselors to expand the knowledge of options available to students Assists students with the collection, organization, and packaging of application documents for mailing to colleges/schools/programs Participates in activities that contribute to the effective operation of the school Abides by professional Code of Ethics Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal and local laws Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s) This job description describes the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this position.
