Job Description

Licensing/Certification Requirements; Negative tuberculosis screen, Physical Exam, First Aid Certification, CPR Certification for Infants and toddlers, Food Handlers Card, Criminal Background Check (Some requirements may be obtained prior to employment.)

Environmental Factors/Working Conditions:

Enclosed facility, classroom environment. May come in contact with bodily fluids and contagious diseases. Will require walking on uneven surfaces. Continually able to observe and respond to childrens needs, emergencies and/or conflicts that might occur during the day (inside and outside environments). Continually able to react to a child that is 20 to 30 feet away within 30 seconds. Continually able to lift 1-40 pounds from the floor to a waist high table and carry a child (1-40 pounds) up to 50-100 feet. Must have ability to interact with children on their level: for example, in learning centers, sitting on the floor, conducting and participating in physical activities in the classroom and on the playground, which may include running, bending, stooping, jumping, climbing stairs. Continually able to do fine and medium hand manipulation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA

#1:

Organization, Safety and Health Organizes the classroom and maintains a safe and healthy learning environment both inside and outside. Provides for the constant supervision of children by sight AND sound during ALL activities. Assists in keeping the center, playground area, classroom, and common areas clean and safe. Organizes and labels classroom space into functional areas that are recognized and appropriate for the age of children served. Develops and follows a schedule appropriate for the age level being served. Assures clean linens as scheduled (daily, weekly, monthly). Conducts daily health checks for children. Conducts daily environmental check for health and safety. Follows appropriate sanitation protocols for cleaning, sanitizing, hand washing, diapering.

Assists with functioning and monitoring of nutrition and food service. Serves as a model for healthy habits: eating, washing hands, etc.

Child Guidance Maintains classroom using behavioral management techniques.

Implements positive guidance techniques for children using positive reinforcement, praise, and encouragement. Establishes classroom rules with children that are appropriate for the age level and posts them in the classroom. Provides for smooth transitions from one activity to another.

Assessment Makes ongoing observations, assessments, referrals, and evaluation of each childs progress in the assigned classrooms. Observes physical conditions of children for illness and makes referrals on child abuse. Makes and records observations and assesses each child in each developmental are, utilizing assessment instruments selected by the center. Shares observations with parents at planned conferences and when needed. Evaluates and improves the physical environment (indoors and outdoors) to create opportunities to meet the changing needs of the developing child. Refers children with suspected needs appropriately. Assesses classroom using NAEYC standards and other tools as designated by the center.

Record Keeping Maintains accurate child attendance records. Records daily food service on appropriate USDA forms. Records childs daily health status. Maintains daily sanitation reports. Records and enters child assessment information using appropriate technology. Creates and maintains NAEYC classroom portfolios. Maintains records of parent meetings, conversations, and family conferences. Maintains and displays current lesson plans. Maintains current classroom inventory. Maintains other records as required.

#5Teaching and Learning Provides responsive care to all children by adapting daily care giving routines and plans to the interests and needs of the individual child and the group. Plans daily activities jointly with other staff to implement the program in accordance with the policies/philosophy of the center and identified curriculum objectives curriculum objectives. Submits lesson plans as scheduled to the Director. Uses NAEYC standards, Creative Curriculum, Pyramid, DHR standards, etc. when planning activities. Develops ongoing curricula plans.

Conducts classroom activities according to the appropriate level of the child and in accordance with the daily schedule and lesson plans. Provides a variety of art media and allows for individual creative expressions. Displays artwork appropriately. Provides for small group, large group, and individual activities. Provides a balanced program of open-ended learning and structured activities. Requests supplies and equipment in a timely fashion.

Greets parents and children pleasantly and appropriately, ensuring smooth transitions at arrival and departure. # 8Supervision Assist with the supervision of staff and volunteers, interns, student teachers for child care setting. Conducts supervision on a weekly basis with Associate and Assistant Teachers. Ensures that the Associate and Assistant Teachers are kept updated in all matters concerning the classroom and program: lead teacher meetings, lesson plans policies and procedures training received. Completes yearly performance evaluations. Provides functional training and guidance to staff, interns, substitutes and volunteers assigned to the classroom. Reports all staffing and classroom concerns to director in a timely manner. Reports family changes in schedules and excessive absences to administration in a timely manner.
