Job Description

Special Education Teacher Macon County School District, Deborah Cannon Wolfe Elementary School (Near Montgomery) 4450 Cross Keys Rd, Shorter, AL 36075 Overview The Special Education Teacher will work collaboratively with school staff, students, and parents to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that address the unique learning needs of each student. The ideal candidate should have a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university Professional certificate in the area of responsibility issued by the Alabama State Department of Education prior to starting date Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start date

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach the Alabama Course of Study (ACOS) with fidelity Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special needs Collaborate with other educators and specialists to ensure that IEP goals are met Attend IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other relevant meetings Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning Develops schemes of work, lesson plans, and tests that are in accordance with established procedures Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies Maintain accurate and complete records of student’s progress and development Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations Prepare required reports on students and activities Communicate information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities Observe and evaluate students’ performance and development and provide appropriate feedback on work Other duties as assigned by the school and/or district administrators

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Knowledge of child development and especially of characteristics of students in the age group assigned. Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum. Knowledge of current educational research. Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee must also talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use their hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
