Job Description

Behavior Support Specialist (BSS) Montgomery and Calera 1.0 1.0 out of 5 stars Montgomery, AL 36104 Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behavioral Specialist to join our team. The BSS is responsible for an oversight of services in conjunction with the physical, social, mental and financial well-being of persons served based off their needs stated in their Plans of Service, and developing Behavior Support Plans. The BSS serves as an advocate to the person served including development and oversight of behavioral needs and collection of data on persons served according to federal and state requirements, funding sources and Quality South policies and procedures. The BSS provides training to all staff on all aspects of the behavior support plans.

Essential Functions:

Serve as a contact person for Case Managers, parents, guardians, residential providers, etc. Leads the Support Team members, including the person served, within 24 hours of admission, to share pertinent pre-admission information regarding the behavioral support needs, including medical care, safety concerns, etc. of the person served. Maintains attendance and meeting minutes for this meeting in the record of the person served. Interviews person served, staff and other supports as needed for all BSP meetings and modifications. Maintain current case files for persons served. Completes BSP forms, reports and file reviews in preparation for the initial and annual PCP meetings, including collaborating with the case manager and participating in facilitation of meetings with person served and all other Support Team members. Ensure that consumer and program records are maintained and updated daily, weekly, monthly and as required. Coordinate and ensure behavioral services are provided to persons served in accordance with implementation plans of service, including developing and monitoring the implementation of goals and learning objectives. Seek, maintain and advocate for the connection of Natural Supports for all persons served. Maintains advocacy role to ensure the person served receives desired services and that those services are appropriate. Reviews all information related to the person served and/or their family in conjunction with other support staff. Participate in all team meetings, including Special Team Meetings and distributes copies of forms/documents as needed. Creates and maintains accurate and detailed Monthly Reports, including distribution to Case Management monthly. Monitor Program Managers and direct support professionals /community skills specialists with implementing service site programming. Assists with providing training to all staff regarding BSP’s and required documentation, annually and as needed due to updates/changes. Maintain accurate and complete records of person served as required by Quality South’s policies and procedures, funding source contract requirements and Alabama Medicaid regulations. Maintain awareness of Agency and State Regulatory policies and guidelines and monitor, direct and ensure compliance with state standards for program certification. Completes and maintains other reports required by Quality South in accordance with its policies and procedures. Must become trained in Incident Management Investigations and performance related to Community IPMS, as well as internal policies. Follow agency guidelines and policy to complete reports within the designated required timeframes. Ensure all rights and due process of persons served including advocacy efforts, including all rights afforded as stated in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. Implements and follows Home and Community Based Ruling (HCBS). Must follow the HCBS guidelines set forth by the funding source and the Centers for Medicaid. Completes unannounced site checks at each home/ community outing monthly rotating shifts, checking to see if documentation and redirection is completed correctly. Participates in the completion/ updating the staffing levels and behavioral needs as changes to services occur on each Individual. Attends and patriciate in all meetings / training sponsored by the funding source. Participate in an on- call rotation and assist with coverage of groups/ shifts . Promote and encourage individual choice, self-determination, independence self-esteem and dignity. Complete all assignments and other duties as delegated by the Regional QDDP Director.

Physical Demands:

Able to manage time effectively Must be able to lift, push, pull minimum of 25 pounds Capable of sitting, standing and walking for 8-hour shifts. Able to work flexible hours to meet work demands and assist with on-call 24 hours, 7 days a week coverage as needed.

Requirements :
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a Human Service Field.
  • Minimum of 1 year working experience with developmentally disabled population.
  • Previous supervisory experience desired.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid AL Driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Successful completion of the pre-offer process, including criminal background and driver’s record check, drug screen, TB test and professional references.
  • Ability to complete orientation, agency training and required State training within specified timeframes.
  • Qualifications to complete Rights Assessments of all persons in service.
