K TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a minimum four-year degree in early childhood education or Child Development (Lead Teacher) and Auxiliary Teacher must possess a associates degree, CDA or have completed three college level course in Child Development. Demonstrates ability to work with children and parents. Demonstrates emotional and physical ability to care for children. Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude. Ability to designate and demonstrate responsibilities to the auxiliary teacher in professional manner. Good attendance is required. Must agree to abide by TCR Policy and Procedures manual. Must maintain confidentiality of information regarding children and families. A current drivers’ license along with proof of current automobile liability insurance on vehicle used in the performance of the job is a necessity. Insurance must be insurable by the program’s non-owned insurance plan. Must meet state licensing requirements, clear State Child Abuse/Neglect registry and Criminal History Background check. Must adhere to Alabama Minimum Standards for Day Care Centers.

PERFORMANCE
Develops and implements developmentally appropriate lesson plans which reflect program philosophy and goals. Prepares learning environment for all children, includes indoor and outdoor settings. C. Displays children’s work at the children’s eye level, work displayed includes art, group projects, science experiments, block creations, etc. Work should be labeled with children’s name and a brief description of activity for parents and visitors. Develops a “print-rich” learning environment, including using environmental print, labels, children’s writing, symbols, street signs, etc. Plans daily schedule to provide a variety of activities. Selects and uses a variety of developmentally appropriate materials and equipment in daily activities, uses TCRC resource room materials and shares with other teachers for optimal use of learning materials. Facilitates learning activities for pre-school children in response to individual needs. Permits children to move about freely and explore their environment 1. Initiates and observes play with and between children. Plans and implements a variety of activities and materials that: Fosters a positive self-image through activities that focus on children as individuals, ex. self-portraits, family, pets, feelings, etc. Develops social skills through activities that focus on problem-solving, communication, manners, working in groups, etc. 3. Encourages language through activities such as storytelling, rhyming, exploring different types of children’s books, music/movement, repetitive stories, exploration of sounds through nursery rhymes and other children’s literature, etc. 4. Enhances physical development and skills through activities which focus on fine and gross motor development such as activities which exercise hand-eye coordination, pre-writing skills, group games, music/movement activities, etc. 5. Follows program time line. Facilitates opportunities for children to think, reason, question and experiment throughout the day, including transition times. Ensures that all children’s areas are properly labeled using a variety of examples of print including environmental print, signs, children’s writing, symbols, lower case/upper case print, etc. Encourages and models sound health, safety and nutritional practices. Encourages and welcomes parent participation in the classroom. Looks for creative ways to engage parents in their children’s early education, ex. Parent response journals, parent workshops, parent information boards, parent advisory committee, etc. Respects cultural diversity in staff and children and includes developmentallyappropriate culturally diverse activities in the classroom based on children’s interests as appropriate. Demonstrates respect for children, families and staff at all times. Conducts smooth, creative and varied transitions, frequently using music, rhythm, movement and puppetry activities to move from one activity to the next. Changes planned or routine activities according to needs and interests of children, is flexible. Incorporates key experiences into all elements of the daily routine, including transition times. Make appropriate provisions for early risers or for those children who do not nap. In a timely manner, prepares requisitions for Center Director/Curriculum Liaison to purchase and replenish classroom supplies and equipment. V. Arranges for community resources and field trips. Practices and adheres to TCRC discipline policy. Makes appropriate professional referrals when necessary. Follows all OSR classroom guidelines. 11.
SUPERVISION/INTERACTION A.
Supervises children at all times. Interacts with children showing affection (smiling, touching, holding, etc.). Speaks to children at eye-level. Available and responsive to children (engages in conversation, encourages children to express themselves and share experiences). Treats all children, families and co-workers with respect and consideration. F. Is consistent in implementing positive techniques of guidance and ensures that these techniques are also carried out by teacher assistant. Abstains from corporal punishment, raised voice, or other humiliating or negative techniques. Greets children upon arrival and conducts daily health inspections. Participates in meal time. (Serves meals, sits and eats with children, engages in conversation, models appropriate table manners.) Demonstrates control of self in difficult or unusual circumstances. Dismisses children in a courteous manner. (

RECORDKEEPING
• Responsible for ensuring that parents are following proper procedures concerning sign in/out sheet. Reports any specific problems to Center Director. Responsible for attendance sheet. Ensures attendance sheet and attendance sheet match. Checks classroom daily to meet license and accreditation guidelines. Reports any insufficiencies to Center Director. Conducts and maintains documentation on parent/teacher conferences. Conferences will be conducted at least two times per year. Collects information and prepares assessments on each child. A variety of sources should be employed to complete assessment including samples of children’s work, parent comments, and teacher anecdotal records highlighting progress in key experience areas. Maintains daily classroom log/incident documentation. Maintains the following in the classroom: updated list of birthdays (year and month) of children enrolled in classroom emergency contacts for each child medical doctor name/number for each child person(s) child may be released to
IV. GENERAL
• Responsible for daily routine housekeeping duties in classroom and center as assigned by Center Director. Shares responsibility in keeping art center shelves, book center, block center and all other classroom areas clean and organized. Maintains confidentiality in all programmatic/personnel actions until directed to do otherwise. Practices professional conduct in all matters. Is flexible with work hours as needed according to required child-staff ratio, hours may vary according to state ratio requirements. Supervision and safety of children is considered. Maintains valid driver’s license and liability insurance in order to transport children and/or to park vehicle on premises. Cooperates with Center Director/staff and Central Office staff at all times. Acts as a team player. Maintain and complete all OSR documentation for the purpose of ongoing assessments. Work directly with OSR Coach and Monitor. Plan daily as a teaching team to insure lessons are delivered that are age appropriate and meet the OSR Standard. Understand and abide by all OSR Pre-k Standards. Demonstrates cooperation and flexibility in performing temporary assignments and any other non-routine center related assignment as deemed necessary by the Center Director.
V. HEALTH & SAFETY
• Follows rules concerning daily health inspection. Reports any concerns to Center Director. Reports any accidents to Center Director regardless of severity so that parents can be contacted and report made. Reports any suspected child abuse or neglect to the Center Director. Prepares written documentation of same. Is attentive to and participates with children on playground. Keeps gate secured. Assists children in toileting and hand washing. Children are never left unattended or sent to restroom unattended. Assists children in brushing teeth after breakfast and lunch. Adheres to guidelines for transporting children at all times. Demonstrates a positive attitude in dealing with parents, children, staff and other TCRC personnel. Possesses skills to take temperature, read thermometer, and apply basic first aid as appropriate. Inspects classroom and playground to determine that all areas are free of clutter, debris, litter, trash, and/or broken glass or useless material. Report findings to Center Director. Assures that center common areas are properly cleaned after use, example playground, hallways, etc. Follows proper procedures for tornado/fire drills and other emergency drills. Conducts classroom cooking activities with prior approval of Center Director.
