GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Teachers hold primary responsibility for the implementation and development of The Excel Center curriculum and the success of its students. We seek teachers who are committed to continuously improving curriculum and instruction through collaboration as part of a team. The Instructor will facilitate learning for students attending Excel Center, meeting students “where they are”. He/she employs a student-centered approach effectively tailoring the instructional strategies to the individual students’ needs approaching instruction with grit, creativity, and innovation. Strategies may include but are not limited to direct instruction, one-on-one instruction, seminars, self-paced lessons, and online learning environments. Instructors employ high impact instructional practices and motivational techniques. The person in this position is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities, such that the students benefits from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aides, accommodations, and other needed supports. The position will work with the instructional team in meeting standards-aligned educational objectives. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.

Provide coordination for special education services including development of IEP’s and coordination of referrals to outside resources. 2. Accommodate the general education curriculum for students with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies. 3. Maintain accurate and compliant student records and prepare documentation as required by law. 4. Hold the case conference committee meetings to assist in developing measurable goals, benchmarks, and objectives to meet student’s needs. 5. Regularly monitor the implementation of the student’s IEP and provide progress reports to the student and/or family 6. Develop compliant and comprehensive transition plans 7. Clearly communicate student’s IEP accommodations to general education staff 8. Ensure any needed accommodations and modification on district, statewide, and national assessments are implemented according to the student’s IEP 9. Preparing and delivering lessons to students who reflect a range of different ages and abilities. 10. Applying standards-based grading to diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments, giving appropriate feedback, and maintaining records of students’ progress and development. 11. Applying best practices in adult education, researching new topic areas, maintaining up-to-date subject knowledge, and devising and writing new curriculum materials when needed. 12. Selecting and using a range of different learning resources and equipment, including rich technology integration, to ensure high quality learning. 13. Preparing students for passage of EOC exams, and external examinations (PARCC). 14. Managing student behavior in the classroom and on school premises, and applying appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehavior with dignity. 15. Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions aimed at improving student retention, productivity, school culture, and new student orientation. 16. Communicate student progress effectively with students, colleagues; Collaborate with staff to ensure student success. 17. Work with coaches and leadership staff to support students’ progress towards graduation and post-secondary planning. 18. Attend all team and professional development meetings. 19. Offer tutoring and other academic supports for students struggling academically. 20. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Broad knowledge of such fields as accounting, marketing, business administration, finance, etc. Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education; Licensed in special education-mild and/or intense certification required, plus 2 years related experience and/or training, and 7 to 11 months related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals; Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.
