The ideal candidate will bring a passion for the visual arts, a strong foundation in photographic techniques, and the ability to foster creativity and critical thinking in a faith-based, college preparatory environment. Salary is commensurate with education and years of service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach introductory and advanced photography classes, incorporating both digital and film-based techniques aligned with the school’s visual arts curriculum. Instruct students in camera operation, photo composition, lighting, editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom), and darkroom processes where applicable. Guide students in developing portfolios that reflect individual creativity and technical skill for college applications or art exhibitions. Promote visual literacy and critique skills by facilitating discussions and evaluations of student and professional work. Manage and maintain photography equipment, classroom studio space, and digital lab resources to ensure student safety and proper usage. Encourage student participation in local and national photography contests, exhibits, and school publications. Collaborate with colleagues in the Visual Arts Department to align interdisciplinary projects, art shows, and curriculum goals. Uphold the values and mission of Cardinal Gibbons High School by fostering a respectful, inclusive, and faith-centered learning environment.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university preferred. Background in broadcasting and media production, technical proficiency in operating and maintaining equipment (including cameras, microphones, switchers, and mixers), as well as with software related to the editing of audio and video. 2 years’ related experience. Good oral and written English-language communication skills, including clear speaking voice. Must be supportive and respectful of the mission and tenets of the Roman Catholic Church and have knowledge of its structures, functions and institutions. Must have a professional demeanor.
