Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate teacher to join our team. This individual must be a certified educators and is responsible for providing targeted support to children and teenagers (ages 6-18) who are facing challenges in the areas of math, science, and reading. The certified teacher works closely groups of approximately 15 students to identify their individual learning needs and develop personalized intervention strategies to help them succeed academically. The position will have support from 2-3 Youth Guidance staff and 3-4 volunteers.

Work Schedule:

Part-time (25 hours per week during the summer; 10-15 hours per week during the school year):

Summer Hours:

Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

School Year Hours:

Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct assessments to identify students’ strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles in math, science, and reading.
  • Provide tutoring to help students improve performance on standardized testing.
  • Facilitate engaging academic enrichment activities to cultivate a love for learning among students.
  • Develop and implement personalized intervention plans for the bottom quartile of students tailored to each student’s specific needs and goals.
  • Work with students to reduce out-of-school suspension time and improve school attendance.
  • Conduct training for Youth Guidance staff and volunteers to administer assessments and provide ongoing individual or small group interventions during designated intervention hours.
  • Monitor student progress regularly and adjust intervention strategies as needed to ensure academic growth.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders to coordinate interventions and support student success.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and intervention activities.
  • Assist with creating engaging lessons plans for field trips and life skills programs that are aligned with Florida State Standards.
  • Accompany children and Youth Guidance staff on field trips and assist with implementing academic component.
Qualifications:
  • Certified teacher (required)
  • Experience working with low-income students preferred
  • Special education experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field preferred
  • Previous experience working with children and teenagers in an educational setting
  • Strong knowledge of math, science, and reading curriculum and instructional strategies
  • Ability to assess student learning needs and develop targeted intervention plans
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students overcome academic challenges
  • Flexibility to adapt intervention strategies based on student progress and changing needs
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
  • Familiarity with educational technology and software applications for instructional purposes
  • Maintain the positive and professional image of the agency through demeanor, actions, dress, and behavior.
  • Understand and recognize symptoms of child abuse and neglect and the reporting requirements of Florida law, as a mandated reporter.
  • Understand and comply with the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
  • Both office and field work are required for this position.
  • Ability to travel to and participate in Youth Guidance activities and events.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
